Bionic Goliath

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.

This specific character was part of an event using Lee’s Useless Super-Hero Generator. The rolls were :

  • Power(s): Earth/rock control, Super-human throwing accuracy, Super ventriloquism.
  • Source of powers: Gadgets.
  • Weapon: Invisi-sceptre.
  • Transportation: Snow Cable

Background

  • Real Name: David Kenner
  • Marital Status: Single
  • Known Relatives: None
  • Group Affiliation: X-O aka EXO aka E.C.S.O. (European Community Security Office)
  • Base Of Operations: Brussels, Belgium
  • Height: 5’10” Weight: 400 lbs Age: 35
  • Eyes: Emerald Green Hair: Black

Powers and Abilities

Before the accident, David was an expert climber and dilettante adventurer (WILL, Acrobatics, Animal Handling, Wealth).

After his accident he was rebuilt with bionic parts. They enhance his coordination, agility, strength and overall resilience, including an assistant computer system with extensive information in many subjects (Detective, Medicine, Military Science, Area Knowledge) that can be helpful on his missions, as well as enhancing his memory and perception (INT, Recall).

The mystic discharge of the Invisi-Sceptre created an special device on his chest that allows him to control the mineral world in many different ways (Earth Control, Joined, Detect, Cling), and although beyond current understanding, Brainiac-5 discovered on a journey to the 20th century that it worked under genial but scientific principles.

A mix of magic and a database with physics and other information regarding missile paths, archers, techniques, etc. makes Bionic Goliath’s throwing prowess inhumanly accurate.

The contact with the magic wand has also made him partially sensible to the supernatural: sometimes, David surprises himself suddenly “knowing” things he was not supposed to know (Occultist).

History

David Kenner was an english adventurer quite obsessive with his aims. Whenever he wanted something, be it a woman, a lost treasure or climbing a mountain, he didn’t stop until he got it. David heard of a mythic evil lord who gathered power on the Eastern Europe during the first and second world wars. The jewel of his treasure was a scepter made of the purest diamond, as crystal clear it was called the Invisi-sceptre. On his journey to found the scepter, he also heard a bad omen: he who’d take the scepter would rise the legions of the damned and one of their lords.

After many adventures on Hungary, Rumania, Markovia (where he was helped by Terra and Geo-Force) and the Czech Republic, finally Kenner found what he wanted: the Invisi-sceptre. But it was stabbing the chest of a rotten corpse, on a stone bed, with the Czech reading “Zde spénci èlen urèitý BodŽivá mrtvola. Brát èlen urèitý žezlo a on vùle bdící zas” (“Here lies Count Zombie. Take the scepter and he’ll awaken again”).

At that point, Kenner had heard many stories about the evil lord and knew he was called “Count Zombie” by some people. His obsession was greater than his sanity, and he took the scepter, thinking that even if the corpse rose he’d later defeat him.

The Count did awaken. Kenner was amazed but fought him… and lost badly. Count Zombie was slow but deadly and threw him mountain down, where David was found by some soldiers sent by Geo-Force to take care of him and later took to Belgium in search of a proper surgeon… still with the scepter in his right hand.

David injuries were really bad looking, but once on Belgium, he was took under a secret program of the European Union: they changed ripped muscles, trashed nerves and shattered bones by steel, wire and cable, until they got a new David Kenner. The magic in the Scepter altered the bionics even more, as explained in the “Powers and Abilities” section.

David accepted to work for the X-O wanting to pay for his pride and insanity and the releasing of Count Zombie in our world. His codename was the first step towards forgetting the man he was: his name was David and he was unearthly proficient by throwing rocks, pebbles, arrows or sling pellets… but he was the defeated one on his short battle with Zombie. No David, then. He’d be Goliath: the Bionic Goliath.

Description

Bionic Goliath looks quite human, with almost no cyber-look: no cables, no metal plates, just his chest box, but even that is quite thin and doesn’t hinder his relationships. On mission, he wears a black jumpsuit with a thin red belt and the letters “X-O” over his left breast.

The belt uses to store his Snow Cable: it’s a gun-like device that fires cable forward and backwards, anchoring in two points and then jet propelling, with his user grabbing the pistol, along the line.

One small detail (OV/RV 8/7 to notice it): when he uses his computer-brain (Recall, Medicine, Area Knowledge) there can be seen, behind his eyes, a series of numbers running across.

Personality

David is now contrived with what he did, and will take much care in not letting his pride dominate him again. He wants to destroy Count Zombie and his minions of undeads beyond anything else. On the other hand, he understand he was given a second chance and now wants to use his skills on helping others, instead of himself.

Of course, there could also be much light-hearted adventures on the Y2K Europe, an Europe without League nor Guardians.

Quotes

Bionic Goliath: “You are under arrest.”
Mafia boss: “I have six men targeting you right now. What do you got ?”
Bionic Goliath: “Six pebbles.”
Mafia boss: “…and that means ?”
Bionic Goliath: “That means you are under arrest.”

DC Universe History

The Bionic Goliath is thought to be played on the DC Universe. His relationship with Geo-Force can be explored, as much as his combination of magic and technology (Faust and Baron Blood come to mind) and the Legion of the Damned return.
