Context

Chun-Li (春麗) is one of the emblematic characters of the landmark brawling video game series, Street Fighter. But she wasn’t there from the very start, as she joined the cast in 1991.

She’s known for her kicks and her acrobatic, wushu-based fighting style. In several games she’s also an easy character for beginners to get good results with.

This profile is chiefly about her stats in some of the main video games, rather than documenting spin-off media.

Powers and Abilities

Not only is Chun Li a world class martial artist and highly skilled acrobat, but she’s also a highly skilled and resourceful Interpol agent. She has all the detective and investigative skills that come with it.

Furthermore, she is the sixth best shot with firearms in the SF universe.

History

Street Fighter Zero 2

Chun-Li’s father had gone MIA. Following the lead from a friend of her father’s, Gen, Chun-Li set out to investigate the evil organization known as Shadaloo. She tried to find out who was responsible. She finally came face to face with the leader of Shadaloo, Vega.

She demanded to know what happened to her father and Vega proceeded to kick the crap out of her then flew off taunting her about her missing father.

Street Fighter Zero 3

Chun-Li was the Interpol’s special detective assigned to Shadaloo. With the rampant internal corruption she was powerless, so she decided to work with Nash to defeat Shadaloo. Unfortunately, Guile came to intervene.

Chun-Li tried to stop him. She told him that the orders that he had received from the Army were from corrupt officials as well. She said that Nash had to be left alone so he could take care of Vega himself. But Guile wouldn’t listen.

However, after Guile himself met Nash, he became convinced that they were right and joined forces with them. However, the bombardment of Shadaloo was called off due to corruption in Interpol stemming from Vega’s manipulation.

Portrait of Chun Li

Thus Chun Li came to the realization that she had to destroy the base herself. As Guile and Nash rushed to destroy the psycho drive, Chun-Li proceeded to set explosives around the base. While doing this she captured a brief glimpse of a mysterious young girl, but wasn’t able to see much more before that girl disappeared.

Unfortunately, Nash didn’t make it out of the explosion thanks to Vega. Still, many of Shadaloo’s facilities were shut down due to the destruction of the base.

Street Fighter 2

While wounded Shadaloo was far from dead. Worse, Vega was somehow still alive. Chun-Li entered the tournament, suspecting more than ever that Vega was behind her father’s disappearance years ago.

After the tournament, Chun-Li systematically took Shadaloo down for good. After Shadaloo was destroyed, Chun-Li visited her father’s grave, and told him that he could finally rest in peace.

Street Fighter 3 Third Strike

Chun-Li had withdrawn from “street fighting” long ago. But one day her kung fu student mysteriously disappeared. She was left with no choice but to come back to the world of “street fighting” and search for her lost student.

She investigated and found that Gill’s organization had kidnapped her. She finally confronted Urien, and fought for the girl’s freedom. Urien promised to release the girl if Chun-Li was able to entertain him for a while with her fighting ability, for he had heard of her legendary status.

Impressing Urien in battle, Chun-Li convinced Urien to release the girl.

After rescuing her, Chun-Li realized her new purpose in life and she takes the girl in. Six months later, Chun-Li reflected on what she learned that day. Now, for her father and her country, as well as all the warm-hearted people she met throughout the world, she would train the next generation and teach them the true meaning of strength and beauty.

Where Is She Now

Chun-Li is training a lot of kids in martial arts and teaching them to be…good guys and stuff.

Description

Chun Li is an attractive Chinese woman in extremely good shape. Her legs, in particular, are highly muscular and extremely well developed. She typically wears blue spandex with Chinese motifs or a variation of a blue Chinese dress when fighting along with her spiked bracelets. She usually braids her hair into two buns on either side of her head.

While on the job for Interpol she typically wears a nice skirt suit. She seems to favor the color gray.

Personality

Chun Li was a loving daughter who was extremely close to her father despite his frequent absences due to his job as a detective. She was absolutely devastated when he disappeared. This prompted her to become an Interpol agent and follow in his footsteps. Her motivation for going after Shadaloo seemed a lot more like her living up to her father’s name than actually avenging his death.

After she took down Shadaloo she began taking in students and training them to fight for justice. Even though she has strong maternal instincts it doesn’t seem like she’s going to get married and have children. It was somewhat implied that she had a romance going on with Nash.

It’s likely with all the death of the two most important men in her life that Chun Li has a hard time falling in love.
