Bamf !
Nightcrawler has numerous limitations on his main Power - Teleportation. Those are :
- He doesn’t have the usual +7 Range bonus (-1)
- He must actually touch the person(s) and/or object(s) that he wants to teleport, not merely have them within 0 APs of him (-0.5)
- Teleporting does not shed off momentum. If he teleports while falling at terminal velocity, he will reappear at terminal velocity (-1)
- Teleportation give off a large puff of smoke and a strong smell of brimstone (-0.5)
- Teleportation is rough. For a completely untrained subject, treat as a Mental blast with AV/OV of 07/07 opposed boy WIL/BODY. Highly trained subjects such as the X-Men and Nightcrawler treat it as a AV/OV 03/03 attack. Since this can cut both way, there is no FC modifier for this aspect of his Power.
- Vertical teleportation has a Range lessened by one AP, and is at +2 for teleportation shock as above. Teleportation along east-west vectors has likewise -1 to Range and +1 to teleportation shock.
- Wagner will often use his Teleport as a special effect in a Multi-Attack - just treat it as a standard Multi-attack with lots of bamfing. Kurt’s Teleport has the Autofire modifier (originally designed for automatic weapons, see the Weaponry article), allowing him to lessen Multi-Attack penalties by 1 CS.
- Nightcrawler very rarely uses his Claw powers, and then mostly against robots such as Sentinels.
Schtick (Fusillade) (25 points)
This schtick is nearly unique to Nightcrawler - it involved grabbing a target and doing a quick succession of teleports in a single Phase, covering less than 3 APs of distance, in order to have the teleportation shock stun the opponent. The teleportation shock for all involved parties is raised by 5 APs. Nightcrawler will usually “brace” for this by spending HPs on LDD against his own Power.
Kurt’s faith
Wagner has a “True Faith” advantage most often found in other Genre, such as Gothic Horror Genres. This Advantage marks him as being touched by God, and possessing enough faith in the Lord to actually affect some of the works of the Adversary. True Faith has no actual application in itself ; however some creatures have Vulnerabilities to opponents with True Faith, some objects can only be used by wielders with True Faith, and so on.
Value for that Advantage varies according to Genre - whether it’s useful very often or very rarely. In Nightcrawler’s case it is a 5pts Advantage, since it comes into play so rarely.
Cute fuzzy mutants
Kurt’s Mistrust only earns him 25 points (half-value), since he seems much less Mistrusted than most fellow mutants due to his cute inhuman looks and style. His whole English career was nearly free of the effects of Mistrust and even in the USA the police was often not as aggressive as it would for his colleagues. Still, Kurt as experienced his share of mutant-hating and Sentinel assaults.
Early Nightcrawler
For much of his X-Men career, Kurt’s DEX was 06 and his STR 03, and he didn’t always had True Faith. DEX 07 and STR 04 were definitively witnessed during the period where he sported a buzzccut.
