Powers and Abilities

Initially, exposure to radiation has turned Ned Creegan into a walking dynamo. His electrified body makes him a formidable foe in hand-to- hand combat ; trying to punch or grapple him is like grabbing a live wire. His tendency to repel like-charged objects and attract opposites could prove problematic for heroes with electrical powers (GMs discretion whether such characters are positive or negative).

Creegan’s power mutated along with the years.. When he fought the Outsiders he could fly, generate intense heat (by touch or heat beams) and greatly speed up the aging of materials (instead of having his own aging process sped up) ; he used this ability to weaken obstacles or neutralize bullets. He could also give objects or persons a negative or positive charge, allowing him to attract or repulse things with great power.

Creegan knows his power pretty well and would often use power tricks.Against Halo, for example, he sped himself up to add his Disintegration APs to his RV against her green aura, then sped up her red aura to send it out of control, giving himself the equivalent of a Mind Blast against her with his Disintegration APs

Ned Creegan was an ordinary thief, until he happened to rob the laboratory of a scientist named Nevil Logan ; his goal was to steal the gems the scientist was using in his experiments. Creegan knocked out Logan and entered the isolation chamber where the gem where, being in the process bathed in the purple light inside the chamber.Unknown to him, Logan had modified the jewels to become radioactive as part of his experiments to find a cure for radiation sickness. The radiation he absorbed had a delayed effect on Creegan… eventually he turned into a living purple skeleton, with static electrical powers. He and Logan cut a deal ; Creegan’s condition could be studied for Logan’s experiments, and Logan gave Creegan pills that would temporarily cure his condition.

With his newfound abilities, Creegan was a more formidable thief than ever, even giving Batman and Robin a run for their money. It was the Boy Wonder who nicknamed their new foe “Bag O’Bones”. But Creegan’s powers were also his downfall ; when the Dynamic Duo finally managed to defeat him, his white pills were crushed in the fight. Batman and Robin went to Logan to get more, but Logan attacked them, unleashing his test animals (who had been given the same powers as Creegan). By the time the Caped Crusaders captured Logan and forced him to concoct more pills, Creegan had lost most of his remaining years. Creegan blamed Logan for his impending death, while Logan pointed out that it was Creegan’s fault for trying to rob him in the first place.

While most would have thought he would have then disappeared forever, he re-appeared later under the name Meltdown, nearly killing Superman and Black Lightning - an adventure we unfortunately haven’t available for research.

After this clash, Meltdown became a model prisoner, particularly obedient and docile and accepting to be treated every day with a special lotion intended to dampen his power. After some time the lotion became inefficient, but Creegan was waiting for his plea for a special treatment to his condition to be accepted, and the loss of potency went undetected. When the board refused his plea, he gave up and used his powers to easily escape from the prison.

As Meltdown, he went around stealing radioactive materials in order to survive, but the warden called Batman and the Outsiders and they eventually apprehended him. Batman, however, deducted that the warden was trying to kill Creegan - the board had actually accepted the demand, but the warden would rather have a dangerous super-criminal die than eventually return to the streets. Ironically, once treated, Creegan readily accepted to return to prison.

In human form, Ned Creegan is a nondescript man with short brown hair, who dresses in ordinary casual clothes. As Bag O’Bones, his skin, clothing, and internal organs become transparent, revealing a glowing purple skeleton. Sparks fly whenever his electrified body comes in contact with someone or something.

Next is a picture of him during his first appearance as Meltdown, then his costume when he fought the Outsiders.

In his youth, Creegan was a cheap thug with little imagination or ambition ; when granted superhuman powers, his only thought was to keep committing the same kinds of small-time robberies as always. He was understandably reluctant to assume his Bag O’Bones form, and would start out his crimes in human form, only transforming if some unforeseen difficulty occurs (i.e., superheroes show up). If a fight started to go on too long, he would start looking for an escape route, or failing that, surrender.

In his Outsiders appearance, Creegan certainly didn’t want to be stopped but he wasn’t malicious either, and tried to escape both cops of hero instead of being deliberately confrontational. When he fought, he was more interested in disarming heroes and knocking them away than in harming anyone.
