History

Shadrach is the most brilliant scientific mind of the Nimh, a race of intelligent humanoid mice and rats, the descendants of genetically enhanced lab animals. Stifled by his people’s policy of secrecy and seclusion from the human world (the Nimh live in a high-tech miniature city built from the ruins of a crashed alien spacecraft in the mountains of Northern California), he came to the ruling Council with an elaborate plot to topple human civilization with the Nimh’s considerable technical and mystical resources, and expand their own race to world domination. He was promptly labeled a dangerous madman and placed under surveillance by Justin, the city’s nominal leader.

Escaping with a handful of radical supporters, Shadrach set himself up in the California metropolis of San Christoforo (fictional campaign city) and attempted to initiate his plan, but found it stymied by the super-hero team called The Crusade. Escaping undetected, he has since regrouped and developed the identity of The Antagonist, using elaborate video and computer equipment to convince both human henchmen and superhuman foes that he is human himself. He continues to plot world domination in the name of his people, continually failing, but always managing to escape with his secrets intact. He’s been a special thorn in the side of the retired gadgeteer hero Doctor Frost, who is a secret human ally of the Nimh.

Description

The Antagonist is a Nimh, a 3.5 inch tall, rather cartoonish-looking humanoid mouse. He’s an albino with white fur that covers most of his body, thinning into bare pink skin at his hands, feet, ears and tail. His red eyes glower with evil intelligence from under a heavy brow. He wears a blue tabard with a mandarin collar, black trim and a black belt. When communicating with humans, he does so remotely, using an elaborate CGI device to transmit a video image of a randomly-selected human celebrity which he speaks through (the heroes will be watching TV or their monitor screens, when the image of, say, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jenny Mc Carthy, or Larry King will pop up, making dire threats. (-: ).

Personality

The Antagonist is a megalomaniac, but a sincere one. He’s really convinced that the world would be better off with the Nimh ruling humanity, and himself ruling the Nihm. He is ruthless, never hesitating to involve innocent or take a life if his plans require it. But he’s also fairly honorable and can be trusted to keep his word, if he can be cajoled into giving it. He’s also slightly more reluctant to harm members of his own race than humans.

DC Universe History

The Nimh and The Antagonist can be imported wholesale to the DCU with little trouble (hey, is it *really* any sillier than Gorilla City ? (-: ). Since the Antagonist is partially based on the pre-Crisis Mr. Mind, he’d probably make a pretty good Captain Marvel villi an.

Despite his rather silly background, The Antagonist is a pretty tough customer. He’s caused a good bit trouble in my campaign, and maybe he can do the same in yours. Lemme know, okay ? Later !
