Roulette II

"Hey fuzzy - catch !"

Thunderbird II: "He's in agony -- what did you do ?"
Roulette II: "Gave him some bad luck. That's a real heavy piece o' furniture, T-bird. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if the boy pulled a muscle or pinched a nerve."
Thunderbird: "You don't sound terribly sorry."
Roulette: "Why should I ? It was fun."

"You know me, pal -- I just love ratting people's chains -- the crazier I make 'em, the better !"

"Save the speech, Manny. You're just doin' this to bust T-bird's chops."

"Here's a little something to speed you on your way -- one of Roulette's patented bad luck energy frisbees."

"You a geek then, Cypher -- or a player ? Me, I go for players."

"Seems like my bad-luck disc short-circuited your powers, squirt."

  • Probability control only has full APs when rolling on Probability Manipulation Table -- otherwise it drops to 6 APs
  • Mental blast and Neutralize are Contingent on Probability Control
  • Mental Blast and Probability Control can be Combined is she expends 2 HPs to do so
  • None of her Powers has AV - all use her Accuracy Skill
  • All of her Powers have a Range of 03 (which is how far she can throw a disc)
Skills: Accuracy (luck discs): 06
Advantages: Area knowledge (Atlantic City), Familiarity (gambling), Rich friend (Hellfire CLub)

Drawbacks: MIA toward girl-style-bullying
Equipment: At one point, Roulette had a one-charge canister of knock- out gas that could also neutralize even Professor Xavier's psionic powers for a full day, but that was obviously a one-shot device stolen from the White Queen.

Powers and Abilities

Roulette can create discs of psionic energy which alter the probability field around the victim at whom she throws the dic. Her black energy discs create "bad luck", while her white energy discs bestow "good luck".

Roulette often uses bad luck to have victims slip or crash into obstacle, have heavy furniture fall on top of opponents, have computers malfunction and explode, etc. - thus often adding a direct damage (Mental Blast) dimension to the direct effect. Bad luck can also simply make the powers of her opponents suddenly run out, which can prove quite decisive. Not being a team player, she prefers to use black discs on her opponents rather than white discs on her allies, unless ordered to do so.

It is quite possible her luck powers were limited to things she could immediately visualize -- otherwise she would have had a much more formidable impact on the fortunes of the Hellions and the Hellfire Club.

History:

When Charles Xavier formed a young team of mutants to be X-Men-in- training, the villainous Hellfire Club retaliated. The White Queen found and recruited a team of her own named the Hellions. Among the original line-up was a young mutant named Jennifer Stavros, aka Roulette -- the mutant daughter of an Atlantic City casino dealer. The youngest of six (four boys and two girls), Jennifer was a wayward kid who spent time running with Atlantic City street gangs before the White Queen got to her.

One of the team's first missions was to kidnap Kitty Pryde and Doug Ramsey while the X-Men were away. They were successful, but the New Mutants soon came to rescue their own. The White Queen becomes detained and, while she is away, the two teams decide to settle the matter by a duel. The New Mutants won and, in the confusion, escaped with their friends.

The next time Roulette appeared, she was with a group from the Hellions who ambushed the inhabitants of Muir Island. James Proudstar (aka Thunderbird of the Hellions) wanted revenge on the X-Men for the death of his older brother John Proudstar, on his first mission, and he attacked Banshee -- who was one of the last people to see his brother alive. After a variety of battles and ambushes, Proudstar realized he was not a murderer and the Hellions withdrew.

Taking a rare opportunity for civility, Emma Frost later threw a dance party for her Hellions and the New Mutants. Roulette and her teammates actually enjoyed the night?splitting off into small groups? until old rivalries flared again and the dance was cancelled. In particular, she "dated" Cypher and rigged a game poker for him to win, mostly to manipulate and mock the geek.

Later, when the New Mutants were in a state of emotional turmoil over being killed and resurrected by the Beyonder, Emma Frost saw it as her opportunity to sweep in and take control. She convinced Magneto? the current leader of the team?to allow the New Mutants to come to the Massachusetts Academy for psychic counseling, where she promptly accepted them into the ranks of her Hellions. The two teams became quite fond of one another but were separated when Magneto realized that his emotions had been manipulated by Empath to convince him to relinquish the students.

Some time after, Emma threw another party which the Hellions as well as the X-Men Gold team attended. It was there that Trevor Fitzroy?a member of the villainous group known as the Upstarts?crashed the party with the goal of killing Emma in order to gain points within the group. The Hellions were mere formalities. Roulette, along with most of her teammates, was killed by Fitzroy off-panel in order to fuel his time traveling teleportation portals.

Personality

Roulette is a petty teenage bitch, who enjoys popular-girl-style bullying of other teenagers (especially other girls, and nerds) and causing trouble. She' pretty proud (and proud of being pretty), and liable to exert petty revenge even against team mates if they offend her -- she once tripped Thunderbird II as he attacked because he resented her sarcasm.

She tends to speak, like, well, a teenage Atlantic City gang member. She occasionally affects a "girl power" attitude, but it's mostly a way to aggravate men.

She tended to ally with Empath, but never hesitated to turn against him for a cheap laugh.
