She carries two battle staves similar to those once used by Mockingbird, carries a sword similar to the Swordsmans (although it has not yet exhibited any of the additional powers possessed by the original, she also has Clint Barton's bow and trick arrowheads.

History:

Kate is the youngest daughter of Derek Bishop, a successful publisher. Kate has never felt comfortable with her family's wealth, donating time and money to soup kitchens, women's shelters, and other worthy causes. Following her mothers death, she became more active in charity. While returning home through Central Park from helping in a soup kitchen, late one night, she was attacked and raped. She kept this secret, confiding only in her therapist (and later in Jessica Jones), and undertook an intensive physical fitness and self-defence regime, determined to never be a victim again.

During her sisters wedding, robbers stormed the church, but got stuck in a stand-off with the police. The Young Avengers burst in, but their inexperience held them up from easily taking out the criminals, and Kate had to help them out.

Her father insisted on taking her to the hospital, despite her protests and lack of injury, and she was there approached by Cassie Lang, who was trying to find the Young Avengers. She joined Cassie, and they tracked the team down to the ruins of Avengers Mansion, where the team had been confronted by Captain America, Iron Man and Jessica Jones, who were unhappy with their activities, and ordered them to stop. Cassie Lang, the daughter of the late Ant-Man, accidentally displayed size-changing capabilities.

While Captain America and Iron Man tried to decide what to do about them, Kang showed up, warning of the consequences to the time stream should Iron Lad not be handed over to him. Kate armed herself with the weapons of the late Hawkeye, Mockingbird, and Swordsman from within the Mansion. When the elder Avengers appeared ready to capitulate, the Young Avengers attacked Kang, giving Iron Lad a chance to flee. When Kang apparently killed Captain America, Iron Man and Jessica Jones, and was about to do the same to the Young Avengers, Iron Lad reappeared, skewering Kang with the Swordsman's sword which Kate had been using. Realising the threat his staying there posed to the time stream, Iron Lad reluctantly went back to his own time, leaving his armour, which became the new Vision, who would later join the Young Avengers.

The Young Avengers were disbanded by their elders, threatened with having their parents told if they again operated in those costumes, and Kate was forced to return the weapons she had borrowed. Kate managed to convince the others to continue despite this, using her father's fortune to fund new costumes, and a headquarters.

During an encounter with Mr. Hyde's MGH operation, the team learned that Patriot's powers were derived from the drug, and Eli left the team, shamed by the revelation. When they approached him in their civilian identities to try to convince him to rejoin, they were attacked by the Super-Skrull, who was attempting to abduct Hulkling, claiming him to be Skrull royalty.

They managed to evade his initial attack, and fled to Wiccan's home, where they found Teddy's mother. Super-Skrull burst in on them, destroying a wall of the apartment, with Patriot as a hostage. They learned that Hulkling was actually the son of the Skrull Princess Arella, and the Kree Captain Mar-Vell. Teddy's mother was revealed to be a Skrull, who confirmed Super-Skrull's allegations. She drew a gun and fired on the Super-Skrull, who retaliated by killing her with a blast of flame.

The Super-Skrull absconded with Teddy, and the team decided they needed help to rescue him. With the Avengers temporarily unavailable, the Vision tracked down another entry from his predecessor's failsafe program, and they bust Speed out of a juvenile detention facility, where his powers were being suppressed. He bore a strong resemblance to Billy. When they caught up with the Super-Skrull, he identified them as the children of the Scarlet Witch, which the Vision's research confirmed.

The situation escalated when further Skrulls and Kree turned up, both sides intent on taking Hulkling with them. The Avengers appeared to aid them, but they managed to end the hostilities when Super-Skrull, who felt he owed a debt to Teddy's father, and Hulkling both disguised themselves as the other, and the faux Hulkling agreed to spend half a year with each race before deciding which to stay with. The Kree and Skrulls left peacefully.

When the senior Avengers appeared about to order the Young Avengers to disband again, Kate stood up to Captain America, arguing that he couldn't stop them doing what they were doing, but he could train them to do it better. The Young Avengers gained Avengers permission to continue, and Captain America gave Kate the late Hawkeye's trick arrowheads, and suggested she assume his codename.

When the government enacted the Superhuman Registration Act, the Young Avengers were among the first captured by SHIELD for failing to register. They were rescued from SHIELD transport by Captain America and the Falcon, and joined their Secret Avengers resistance movement. When Patriot brought to Cap's attention the plight of the Runaway's in Los Angeles, he was told that they couldn't afford to send any forces to help them, and wasn't willing to allow the Young Avengers to investigate it on their own. Unsatisfied with this Patriot led them to LA to track down the Runaways.

After the traditional misunderstanding, the Young Avengers tried to convince them to join the Resistance movement, but they were interrupted by the arrival of Marvel Boy (Noh-Varr) who was under the control of the sadistic warden of the Cube, who had been dispatched by SHIELD to capture the Runaways. Noh-Varr handled both disorganised teams with ease, taking a number of them prisoner for the warden.

The remaining members of the teams banded together to track down the Cube detention facility, an extremely secret prison which held aliens who have no legal status on Earth. They freed their team mates, and released Noh-Varr from the warden's control, essentially giving him control of the facility. Following the escape, the Runaways preferred not to join the Resistance, so the teams parted on good terms.

The Young Avengers returned to the Secret Avengers. They were soon embroiled in the first confrontation between the pro-registration and anti-registration forces, during which Bill Foster (Goliath) was killed. Wiccan was captured during the battle, and was sent to the Number 42 prison facility, and following the battle Stature was unsure that she was doing the right thing, and decided to leave the team and register.

The other members continued to serve as members of the Secret Avengers until the end of the conflict. It is unknown whether they then accepted the general amnesty offered, and registered.

Personality

Self-confident and forthright, Kate can be outspoken, and has no hesitation about standing up to anyone, as evidenced by her telling off Captain America. While usually polite and respectful to her elders, if she believes them to be wrong she will just ignore their advice as soon as they're out of sight. She is determined to never again be a victim, and is particularly aggressive to those who use their power to take advantage of others.

She is developing a friendship with Cassie (Stature), and enjoys a confrontational relationship with Patriot. She's uncertain of how to respond to Speed's advances, and is often thrown off-balance by them. While she frequently questions and badgers Patriot, she's fully accepting and supportive of him as the leader of the group.
