Powers and Abilities

Besides being a capable warrior Ivy is a competent occultist and through research and hard work was able to create her own magical snake blade and even summon a demon. She’s a pretty good scientist for her time as well. Her major downfall (besides her cursed lineage) is that she’s obsessive and doesn’t always think things through.

Ivy - Soul Calibur - Isabella Valentine
Cursed lineage

As the daughter of Cervantes, Ivy has a cursed lineage. Her own bloodline serves to further the agenda of the cursed sword and she is thus vulnerable to it as demonstrated by her Attack Vulnerability. She is also frequently part of subplots that involve this cursed lineage. Her biggest problem is that she cannot wield the Soul Calibur due to her demonic bloodline. Later Cervantes comes and steals most of her soul forcing her to use a prototype soul that she was going to use in an artificial body that would be able to wield the Soul Calibur. She appears to be living on borrowed time that’s quickly running out. On the plus side now it’s theoretically possible for her to wield the Soul Calibur, but not yet proven.

Description

Ivy is a cruel looking woman with ghostly pale skin and pale hair to match. She does have the distinct bearing of nobility though. Her main costume that’s almost always depicted in the artwork is a dominatrix style black leather with a purple undertone affair complete with a thong and a revealing corset as well as thigh high boots. She also wears a metal bracer on her left arm as well as several accessories (because even whip sword wielding dominatrix need to accessorize too, dammit!).

Not surprisingly enough as with a lot of fighting game (hell video games in general!) her costume has the distinct property of getting skimpier over time. In fact her latest costume in SC4 seems like an exercise in how make her costume as skimpy as possible without showing any actual nudity. Don’t be surprised if she’s topless in the next installment and running around buck naked with only a few accessories in later games.

The rest of her costumes are more what you would expect a noblewoman to wear except for the red one which distinctly looks like lingerie as well, but just not as revealing.

Personality

Ivy has a classic case of having an obsession that distorted reality. She was so hell bent on destroying the Soul Blade that had destroyed her adoptive family that she used the exact same methods that her mad adoptive father had used to cause her once noble family to go to ruin. The difference being that she was more successful and she succeeded in summoning the very thing she sought to destroy, only to have it empower the very weapon she intended to use against it.

After failing to find any trace of the blade, she then unknowingly served it in slaughtering and harvesting the souls of countless innocents out of some misplaced idea that was repaying a dept. The entire time she had foolishly functioned as a pawn, which furthered the goals of what she sought to destroy.

When Ivy finally learned the truth about the evil sword she had been serving and her own cursed lineage the twisted irony as well as the guilt of what she had done finally hit home. After some reflection she does regret all that she’s done and seek to make a amends. She’s still hell bent on destroying the Soul Edge and ridding the world of its evil taint, but she’s quite a bit level headed about it now and she no longer takes drastic measures unless absolutely necessary.
