Kritter of Helix (Infinity, Inc. enemy) (DC Comics)

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game
  • There aren’t that many mid-sized groups of superhumans in the DCU, yet such groups are definitely useful in a campaign — it is easier to balance group vs group encounters, for instance.
  • It is advised, but not necessary, to first read the entry for Mister Bones – which includes the full history of Helix.

  • Real Name: Unrevealed

Powers and Abilities

Kritter looks like a very odd human-dog hybrid, but it is unclear whether he has any particular canine features such as Analytical Smell/Tracking Scent or partial colour- blindness ; he does have claws but those are dog claws, and thus not very long or sharp.

Kritter also lacks the vocal cords required for speech. He definitely has skills in computers and computer security, though, and is pretty strong physically.

When typing on a keyboard, rewiring a control box for traffic lights, etc. Kritter seems to work superhumanly fast. He also easily survived some severe damage (including being punched through two concrete pillars, and being thrown about 70-100 meters away) without more significant consequences than broken glasses – in fact at one point he was even declared dead, but was back on his feet mere minutes later.

At one point he designed a small machine which he whimsically called his ’bark enhancer‘, which allowed to speak (though in an obviously artificial voice). He does not seem to routinely use it, though.

See Mister Bones’s entry for a full history of Helix.

He cannot use an old rotating-dial phone or the buttons of most cell phones, which frustrates him given his taste for telecoms. He can use full-size computer keyboard without any difficulty but would likely be unable to operate a Blackberry.

Helix members were raised outside of conventional morality, and until their late teens only knew about the world through television. They entered into contact with the world as rowdy teens, which led to considerable trouble and further sharpened their clan-like mentality.

Since Kritter cannot speak or even have very discernible facial expressions, his personality can be hard to parse. He seems to have dog-like loyalty and enthusiasm, and to really really like computers. He also likes snack food such as chocolate bars, and may have been the one watching episodes of Lassie.

It is unclear whether he likes to play ’dog games’ such as fetch, or if he does so as a weird private joke with Babe. He both seems to like physical comedy and miming, and to have genuinely dog-like instincts.

He largely communicates through miming, noises and exaggerated expressions, and thus tends to come across as a clown. Typical examples include patting himself on the head to indicate success in whatever he was asked to do, or whining loudly if denied food.

Kritter seems to be easily scared of violence, running away to hide under something even if it’s just a routine brawl between Helix members ; however he will completely ignore this if he sees an Helix member being threatened, and will attack.

He’s particularly close to Baby Boom, and reluctantly stuck with her when Helix was torn apart between Carcharo and Mister Bones.

“Oorf !”

“Wurff ?”

“Ralf !”

(Through the Bark Enhancer) “Frankly, your Honor, I never allotted my actions any ethical considerations whatsoever. You see, Dr. Love provided us with ample food and shelter – but he was hardly the ideal person to teach us right from wrong.”
