Pit Drone in the Half-Life video game

Pit Drone

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

This creature is from the original, 1998/99 HλLF-LIFE video game. For more context you can refer to those two articles :

Background

  • Group Affiliation: Race-X.
  • Base Of Operations: Xen.
  • Size: Adolescent Human-Sized.

Powers and Abilities

The Pit Drones are the grunts of the Race-X forces. They can fire the spikes in their gums or slash down an enemy with their large forearm talons.

History

The Black Mesa complex is a private high-tech research installation (with strong ties to the U.S. Government) located somewhere in the American Southwest.

An accident in the Anomalous Materials Lab caused a dimensional breach into the world known as Xen. The Pit drones were ordered through the breach (presumably by Geneworm) with instructions to kill any humans they come across.

Description

Pit drones look like green-skinned featherless ostriches that have been decapitated, with a mouth ringed with spikes where the neck would join the ostrich’s body. Pit drones have a pair of large yellow eyes, one set on each side of the mouth.

The “wings” are jointed in the same way as an ostriches, but instead of being tufted with feathers they sport long spears on the end that the pit drones use for slashing attack.

Personality

Pit drones simply occupy an area and attack any humans that enter their territory, chasing them down if need be. They will start by shooting spikes at intruders. If the intruders surprise them at close range or manage to dodge their first two or three shots, the Pit Drones will close and attack with their claws. Pit drones are usually found in pairs.

Sometimes a pair of pit drones will be deployed with a single shocktrooper.

Quotes

“B-B-Bwurble !”

“THWOCK !” (Spike shot)

DC Universe History

This would be a moderate-level threat to the Earth, probably a good challenge for Young Justice or a similarly powered team. It might be a good solo challenge for Batman.
