Shadow Warrior

(Lo Wang)

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

Shadow Warrior was part of a specific generation of mid-1990s shoot ’em up computer games, using the 2.5D Build engine . These were a grungy, deliberately lowbrow lot emulating D-list action movies and over-the-top violence. This wave was Duke Nukem 3D, Blood, Redneck Rampage and Shadow Warrior.

Shadow Warrior is thus a big pile of cliché elements from bad Japanese action fare as seen from the US, in the service of eager and relentless action (unless you get stuck as to how to unlock the next section). But like the other Build shoot ’em up it works well as a silly game, and they did advance the genre compared to the Doom-likes in preceding years.

Somehow, Shadow Warrior ended up having the strongest legacy. During the 2010s, new SW games were released to solid reviews and sales and the original was even back was cleaned-up tech to run on modern PCs.

Background

  • Real Name: Lo Wang.
  • Marital Status: Unrevealed (almost certainly single).
  • Known Relatives: None.
  • Group Affiliation: Shadow Warrior.
  • Base Of Operations: An unnamed Japanese city.
  • Height: 5’10” Weight: 180lbs.
  • Eyes: Black Hair: Grey

Powers and Abilities

Lo Wang is the best Shadow Warrior of them all. He is thus a ninja-like warrior of remarkable skill.

While he has considerable stealth abilities, his usual modus operandi is to jump in chuckling with both guns blazing – as he often puts it : “be proud, Mister Woo ”.

History

In the Shadow Warrior world, some Japanese villages and towns have a Shadow Warrior. This is a traditional protector of the community from threats within and without. The Shadows Warriors have adapted to the modern world, and now some big Japanese city still have a Shadow Warrior.

Lo Wang is the best Shadow Warrior of them all, and also one of the oldest. He did a magnificent job in protecting his city, and its main source of income – Zilla Enterprises, which employed many of the city’s inhabitants. His day job was to be the sensei at Lo Wang’s Dojo of Death.

The Shadow Warrior over a white background

in 1997, Lo Wang discovered that Mister Zilla, the head of Zilla Enterprises, was truly a twisted, magic-using mastermind. Zilla had a sick plan for world domination. Thus, he had been amassing an army of undead, demons, transgenic monsters, mutants and so onto take over Japan.

Mister Zilla, aware of Lo Wang’s discovery, gave his army its first mission. To kill one man, the Shadow Warrior.

Much, much mayhem ensued… Especially after Lo Wang started using that rocket launcher that, hm, fell off a corpse.

Description

Lo Wang is a very muscular, old Japanese man. He’s nearly bald, and wears an eye patch over his wrinkled features. He has a nearly white moustache and goatee. He has a belt of cloth over his left shoulder for his shuriken, bladed bracers, carry his sword on his back and is often seen toting a gun or five. He wears traditional Japanese trousers and tabi.

Well, see illo. The animated .gif was of fittingly bad taste for the character.

Personality

Lo Wang is an old pervert with a sense of humor. Despite his age, he loves babes, senseless violence and action movies. He probably chases schoolgirls. He does not sound at all like a deadly sensei – more like a semi-senile fanboy. He likes good Japanese food, and eats a lot and very noisily.

He’s very dangerous.

Quotes

“A ninja knows no fear.”

(Slicing an opponent in half with his katana) “Ha-ha. Split personality !”

“You don’t mess with Lo Wang.”

“You drive like a baboon in heat !”

DC Universe History

He could be Katana’s black sheep uncle. The one she’d rather never mention.

    • 40mm grenade launcher [BODY 04, Range: 03, Ammo: 12, R#02] with offensive grenades [BODY 03, EV 07 (Area of effect 1 AP), Grenade drawback, R#03].

… hmm, that should be enough.
