Superman

(Wink World version)

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event. This specific character is part of “Wink World”, a campaign setting created by writeups.org contributor Mike.

Powers and Abilities

Superman is strong enough to juggle Volvos and tough enough that nothing short of an armor piercing missile cap penetrate his skin. Due to his alien nature Superman can fly at faster than 170 MPH. His vision extends both higher and lower in the ranges than humans. He can even see X-rays.

Superman is a talented novelist. Through long years of experience he has grown to be a skilled flyer. During the Hitani war his study of Kilawogs equipment has gained him expertise in the alien gear.

History

Superman was a fertilized embryo taken from the planet Krypton before it was depleted. At some point the embryo was lost for an extended period and all other Kryptonians were gone from the galaxy by the time it was found again. He came into the possession of the Hatani and then to Kilawog in an unknown series of events.

Kilawog in the mid 70s as systems started to fail; he set the embryo to quicken but could not let him be born in the pod because kryptonians, like earthers, were oxygen breathers. He sent the new infant down collaborators he had in Wichita. They sold the perfect new baby boy to a couple of childless agrocultural investors under the guise of being a eugenic breeding product.

The Kent’s adopted him knowing that their boy would be different. When he started to fly in his early teens they realized that he was more than they suspected. Superman grew up isolated by the need for secrecy and the potential for an accident with his great strength.

Carl lived a rich fantasy life fueled by his solitary flights over the hills of Kansas and his isolation. He was in high school when his first novel was published. He moved to the center of the Metroplex for the anonymity of the crowds.

Superman was truly born when on one of his nightly flights he encountered Wonder Woman in a fight with some sewer creatures and intervened on her behalf. Although he was drawn in by her beauty he fell in love with the release of using his strength and speed without holding back. Carl joined that the Justice League for the opportunity to fid out what his limits were and be amongst other where he was ‘normal’.

During the conflict with the Hatani, Superman and Darkest Knight pieced together who Kilawog was by combination of efforts managed to get into the orbital pod. Only Superman could spend any time in it due to the harsh conditions. His mastery of Kilawogs devices was pivotal in repelling the Hatani.

After the conflict Carl kept his life as a celebrated novelist separate from his career as Superman. He kept the station active as best he could as a place of solitude.

Description

Superman is a big barrel-chested guy with a strong chin and piercing eyes. He wears a red and blue battle suit when he’s expecting a fight. He adopted an “S” for his battle suit after the media tagged him with his name.

Personality

Carl Kent is a quiet thoughtful guy who likes to fight. After years of only being allowed mental releases for his energy he revels in his role as a superhero. The sense of belonging that the other supers bring to him has, after many years of unhappiness, given him a love for his adopted world.

DC Universe History

This is an angsty, socially unadept Superman that is a shadow of the DC one. Carl Kent could be convinced to doing nearly anything by a willing sex partner tough enough to let him cut loose.

This Superman in a DC world would be a quiet observer at first and would do whatever was necessary to save his JLA friends. A circumstance started by Dark Knight or Impulse my end up resolved by Superman.
