It seems that the recent batch, though mostly random, keep having some types of entries, so I just took one guy from each recurrent category to save time:

  • The Astro City guy from Peter. This time around it’s Black Velvet, corrupted street vigilante with darkness powers.
  • The guy that gets a copy-edited, clearer entry. This time there are two of those :
    • The entry for Blastaar has been edited for style and clarity, sub-sections were added in the History, and some additional material was added about the Annihilation events and his recent Guardians of the Galaxy appearance.
    • The entry for Gamora (Early) has also received light copy-editing and sub-sections, as the third (and last) Gamora writeup is being finalised. I’ve also clarified a paragraph about her healing factor in her Infinity Watch writeup, since Drax research made me realise I had missed an incident.
  • The 1980s DC villainous guy. In this batch, Chiller, professional assassin with Chameleon and Acid and stuff.
  • The Crossgen/Negation guy from Gareth. It’s Corrin, telekinetic Atlantean sleeper agent (literally).
  • The entirely rewritten guy who gets priority for publication. There are two in this batch:
    • Ten-Eyed Man. Not a huge rewrite and not a huge character, but now he’s fully documented.
    • Mister Hyde. Big big writeup, and it only covers his early career. Lots of stuff in it, convenient villain.
  • Old-skool Legion of Super-Heroes stuff by Chris. You’ll learn about the Starburst Bandits, quite obscure but somewhat cool and surprisingly powerful raiders. With alien burning horses.
  • The multi-part, detailed entry about a somewhat major character. Well, there are two with Hyde – but the main one is Gareth’s work on Psylocke. In this batch, her early career gets covered. I’m happy about this – Psylocke used to be a major character and has appeal, so it’s nice to have a detailed entry about her beginnings.
  • The Minuteman (the predecessors of the Watchmen) entry by Civafan. This time around it’s Silhouette.
  • The painfully obscure guy nobody knows. The volunteer is a minor Steel villain, Amalgam.
  • The oddball writeup-based-on-a-song guy, though it’s been a long time since the last Rockworld entry – the famous boy named Sue.
  • The guy from no category – sexually-obsessed hitwoman Jayne Ferre from the movie Lady Jayne.
  • ART. The following:
    • Blue Mary Ryan is now illustrated (almost forgot)
    • New Bob McLeod pencils for Saturn Girl
    • New banners for all the Minutmen so far
    • Longshot got some new banner art from a well-known artist
    • Steel (again – and I’ve corrected a silly mistake in the labelling of the illos)
    • Carol Danvers (earliest writeup)
    • Flash IV (Iris West)
  • DOCTOR BANNERS. Another Cold War Suicide Squad widescreen repaired.

That’s 4018 entries. If you were to read one WORG entry every day without ever missing a day, you’d be reading for precisely eleven years.

I’m continuing to randomly thrash the backlog of articles and art, grabbing stuff as it comes, though of course revised versions still have top priority for publication. If your stuff ain’t in yet, it might be in the next one… Roll call:

  • DOCTOR BANNERS. Fixed the following missing widescreens:
    • Acrata
    • Ah Keung (both banners)
    • Al Bundy
    • Carcharo (both banners)
    • Dark Messiah (both banners)
    • Gort
    • Johnny Too bad
    • Whiplash (later career)
    • Roulette I
    • Steel Kommando
    • Stencil
    • Sons of Anubis (both banners)
    • Assault & Battery
    • Psi-Borg II
    • Knockabout
    • Violence (all three banners)
    • Nemesis (Soseh Mykros) (both banners)
    • El Diablo (Freedom Force video game)
    • Mentor (Freedom Force video game)
    • First banner for the Cold War Suicide Squad
    • Steeplejack II
  • The Duke of Oil was a minor 1980s DC villain, and you may have noted we are expanding our collection of those. An easy-to-use cyborg and cyberpath.
  • REWRITES. More turning of old WORG notes and writeups into cutting-edge entries, illustrated to the max, through the power of alchemy (mostly meaning coffee) :
    • Arnim Zola now has a monster writeup with lots of biological Gadgets, as appropriate for this Marvel mastermind villain of notable influence
    • Widowmaker, a world-class martial artist, has been rewritten. Furthermore, his employer, the fortress of Dovecote, now has an entry of its own so you’ll know everything. Dovecote was an interesting, simple concept which may see use in many campaigns.
    • The Dark Horse Heroes rewrite slowly continue. In this batch, a big big rewrite of the Machine, a tragic and interesting character with some depth and lotsa powers.
  • Nathan Kane, weapons inspector for the UN, was the Bond-like hero of Warren Ellis’s Ocean sci-fi adventure, and he’s come to inspect WORG.
  • ASTRO CITY. Peter’s Astro City entry for this batch is the powerful Atomicus.
  • We’ve long wanted to tell you about WORG-favourite character Phase. She’s badass, and Chris’s writeup is badass too since it manages to simply clearly explain her three or four retcons. This entry focuses on Phase’s L.E.G.I.O.N. and R.E.B.E.L.S. career.
  • MINUTEMEN. Civafan’s Minuteman for this batch is the ill-fated Dollar Bill.
  • An extra-obscure character, because we like those – Gold Key’s heroine Tiger Girl, a dated one-shot wonder from the late 1960s.
  • KING OF FIGHTERS. Dipping into Tom’s King of Fighters work, here comes Heidern. Tudo bom !
  • Gareth continues to cover all the cool Flash villains in detail. In this batch, the Weather Wizard.
  • ROAD REPAIR CREW. All the entries now have the proper spacing to make the stats and background blocks more pleasant to read.
  • ART. Are they bad enough dudes to save the President ? Probably. Furthermore, they got new art :
    • Iman
    • Knockabout
    • Violence (who’s not a dude, but is definitely bad enough)
    • Banshee
    • Cyclops (early)
    • Fabian Cortez
    • Kingpin
    • Mach I
    • Wolverine
    • Steel (John Henry Irons)
    • Mantis
    • Spider-Man (as usual)
    • Graviton
    • Molten Man
    • Captain America’s gear
    • Maverick
    • Living Laser
    • Jolt
    • The main illustration for the pre-Crisis Batwoman has been remastered and fixed
    • Ditto for the pre-Crisis Huntress (Helena Wayne), who also got a piece of extra art
  • The entry about the Star Trek phasers has received its “Weapons Locker” tags

Entry count is 4008.

I wonder how many hours of work go into each entry, on average… when you add everything up. Anyway, the hard-working WORG crew presents:

  • ART. The following boys, girls and others have had new art added:
    • Higher-res picture of the cover for Harry Keogh, and higher-res shot of the Starcraft Marine
    • Demogoblin
    • Green Goblin (movie version)
    • J.J. Jameson (again)
    • Mandrill
    • Isaac Mendez (Heroes) (previously unillustrated)
    • Spider-Man (Ultimate) (thwip thwip !)
    • Stegron
    • Super-Skrull
    • Texas Twister
    • Deadshot
    • Human Torch II
    • Hydroman (Marvel)
    • Post-reboot Leviathan (previously unillustrated)
    • Jackal I
    • Mr. Fantastic (Earth-616)
    • Rocket Racer
    • Spider-Man (Earth-616)
    • Balrog
    • Mr. Bison
    • Valentina, Ebony and China
    • Sagat
    • Vega
    • Man-Bull
    • Darna
    • Black Cat (early)
    • Howler (previously unillustrated, but it was my fault)
    • Storm
    • A neat shot of the Black Knight (Dane Withman)
    • Joker (Tangent version)
  • Jackhammer I – as a bonus to the semi-recent Demolition Team rewrites, here is the DC Universe’s first Jackhammer. He actually beat Superman once, you know.
  • Ms. MARVEL. Writeups.org has been sporting a series of entries for Carol Danvers for years. Well, we’re rewriting them, only with a much much higher quality – though it’ll take a while. We now start with the first chronological writeup about the flashbacks of her youth. If you’re part of the majority who think she’s not an interesting character, you definitely want to start reading.
  • THE HYBRID REWRITTEN ! The plurality of the new stuff in this batch is a complete rewrite (and reillustration) of the Hybrid, an interesting (if minor) group of superhumans in the DCU. All members now have definitive (and prettier, and more accurate, and more interesting) entries. Namely :
    • Behemoth
    • Gorgon
    • Harpi
    • Prometheus
    • Pteradon
    • Scirocco
    • Touch ‘n’ Go
  • The Joker – Heath Ledger’s version, as fittingly written up by our Ledger look-alike, Tom. For many, this version of the Joker might be the definitive one ! He’s on every player’s mind, and GMs whop like to roleplay their NPCs have a treat here.
  • ASTRO CITY. Another entry from Peter’s research into this fascinating comic book. Today it’s the Blue Knight, possibly an undead vigilante killer cop with lotsa guns.
  • CROSSGEN / NEGATION. More entries from this interesting book from Gareth:
    • Lizard Lady, big Saurian soldier with a gun and an appetite
    • Matua, a sorcerer from the Djinn Guild
  • MINUTEMEN. Civafan has started compiling information about the predecessors of the famous Watchmen, the Minutemen. In this batch, the Mothman.
  • DOCTOR BANNERS.
    • The banner illustrations for Man-Ape have been repaired. In our mad gambit to convince the world that Man-Ape is a cool character, we even added quite a few new banners. And subsection titles.
    • Hiro (from the TV show Heroes
    • Valentina (from Darna)
    • Shaolin terror priests
    • Black Widow I and Rockman (2007 takes on the Golden Age characters)
    • Joker (Tangent version)

And, well that’s 3,999 entries now. Will me manage to break 4K ? The suspense is unbearable !

A few more things (no new entries though):

  • ROAD REPAIR CREW. The more generous spacing for stats and background blocks has been implemented for about 85+% of the entries so far. It apparently works on all common browsers.
  • NEW SITE. Due to a cranio-rectal insertion-generated error, the titles were not displaying correctly. Now they do (your browser’s window will be called “Doc Savage” when you open the Doc Savage entry). This also means that Google will finally get a chance to crawl the site in good conditions, and display intelligible search results in the Parse section of writeups.org – though of course it’ll take some time for them to re-re-index the site.
  • ART. So:
    • Scythe II and Shu Hu both have much improved art, from a recoloured Iron Fist reprint
    • Johnny Punk and Impercepto (Hostess cupcakes)
    • Mandarin
    • Misty Knight
    • Arisia
    • Bishop (X-Men)
    • Jean Grey (yes, again)
    • Phoenix II (Rachel)
    • Nebula Man
    • Klaw
    • Mentallo
    • Kingpin
    • Man-Killer
    • “Jolly” Jonah Jameson
    • The Lizard
    • Jackal I
  • BANNERS REPAIR CREW.
    • Doctor Lansing
    • Colonel Ling (wasn’t easy)
    • Reprise
    • Blackwing II
    • Sheeda Buffalo Spider
    • Atom Smasher II
    • Doctor Faustus
  • EDITIN’. The Doctor Faustus entry also has been copy-edited for style, clarity, most typos, adding subsections, etc. Man-Killer is now referenced as both Man-Killer and Mankiller.
  • TAGGING. The articles about Unreal weapons and Half-Life weapons now have “Weapon locker” in the title and Notes, as does the article about missiles. Finding the arms-centric article should thus be easier.
