I still have very little time to put online the wondrous products of our little online community, but here’s a handful of things for those of you with a need for regular WORG content in their lives :
- REVISIONS. More revised and improved entries, though not to the extent of being a v2.
- V2. The entry for Gitane (an example Everquest I character) has been thoroughly revised. There will be more EQ entries (and probably WoW entries too) because it’s amusing.
- GREAT TEN. The Shaolin Robot is finally in, because, well… c’mon. It’s the Shaolin Robot ! Go, Shaolin Robot !
- INVINCIBLEVERSE. Bryan now covers Monster Girl, of the Guardians of the Globe.
- JAMES BOND. In this batch, Mr. Wint and Mr. Kidd. Peter has started writing up some famous villains from James Bond movies, so here comes the murderous duo from Diamonds are forever.
- RONNIE THUNDERBOLTS ART. Another small selection to enhance existing entries with very clear art:
4455 entries now – every little bit helps, right ?
Just wanted to say that I’ve never properly commented on this site (or its previous “incarnation”), but I, for one, do greatly appreciate that you and your contributors continue to run/update it. The MEG system truly is the best roleplaying system to reflect the abstracted way in which the comic genre usually operates, and your conversions are very helpful for those of us who still like to play/dabble (even if less often than when we were younger) with the game/setting, particularly with converted Marvel characters.
Thanks again for keeping this site running; I don’t always completely agree with every interpretation (Nightcrawler with Claws:12?! – my hardcore Nightcrawler friends went “in what reality was that, and did I miss issues with him since, I don’t know, the *70′s*?!” And the write-up for “current”-ish Wonder Woman II of a few years ago? — good details, but some surprising inaccuracies…) — but 99% of the time, it’s pretty spot-on, and for a non-official site, that is extraordinary. Keep up the good work!
Hey John,
The Claws thing for Kurt is when he teleports away with a bit of an opponent (almost always a robot), severing it. This was mostly used against Sentinels. Since the writeup is very old I’ll clarify that and fix the various typos, style issues, little formatting glitches, etc. it presumably has.
As noted in the Notes some bits of our “generic” Diana entry are quite tentative. I’m thinking about a much more focused “Gail Simone’s Wonder Woman” entry, but this is long term, so do not hesitate to comment as to changes you’d suggest in the current notes.
(Just using this original post as a response point)
I emailed you a “thank you” before, for the clarifications above, but just wanted to reiterate it here — thanks!
Also, just noted the Simone write-up that was done for Wonder Woman (with her being in her most powerful form short of when she was a goddess under Byrne) — pretty good, and I agree with most of it (particularly the boosting of the power/BODY of the lasso, and its connection to Diana; I did find some of the listed stats for it, however, to be unnecessary from a narrative POV/could be simply explained with existing stats, but six-of-one, half-dozen of the other, I suppose…). I do have a fine point of disagreement, however, and one that has irked me with other write-ups for WW: the changing of her DEX to 12. I totally don’t get it. Like, *at all*. *Especially* as this is WW in one of her most powerful forms. Now, I do understand that some people use the Martial Artist substitution (13, for most people’s write-ups) as the rationale for this, coupled with her presumably always spending HP to bolster her “special effects”, as it were, but even that just seems to fall short. A more likely scenario, particularly for this write-up, is for her to have DEX:13, and then, say, either a M.A. rating for either AV or OV (or both) at 15, or even 16, as that would better reflect her relative consistency (HP levels for all involved being considered) in not quite being as powerful a Superman, but being demonstrated as having the clear edge in terms of hand-to-hand combat speed/finesse. Further, at least for this write-up, I’d suggest giving her Accuracy:16 for Weaponry (Deflecting w/Bracers), *especially* if the DEX:12 is kept, as that again reflects how her skill at deflecting physical attacks (barring mystical influences, of course) is virtually unmatched by anyone, and puts the skill-factor in the same ballpark of speed similar to the likes of “normal-range” Jessie Quick (Superspeed:18, with 16 being in the lower end of that ballpark). As an addendum/related thought, while I love Diana to death as a character, I can’t be on-board with giving her an INT:11. Yes, it helps mechanically in terms of the Initiative concept, but to general, median-truth of her, as a character, is that her intelligence would be better represented in the 9-10 column, with 9 being the more likely (still makes her a genius by any earthly standards — with an emphasis on linguistics, intuitive-deduction, and conventional problem-solving), which serves her well while still keeping the likes of Batman, Mr. Terrific, brain-emphasized Superman, and the like, in a category above her (which is true — they are — with Diana having the intuitive advantage, with is better represented by giving her an INFL:12).
In a nutshell, in terms of stats, I’d give her:
DEX:13 STR:22 BODY:16 (with listed RV weaknesses)
INT:9 WILL:12 MIND:10
INFL:12 AURA:10 SPIRIT:12 (purity of essence/truth)
Initiative: (38-44, depending on a given write-ups bonuses and interpretation of Superspeed; personally, I’d go with 38 [L.R. bonus, plus M.A.], with her spending HP to compensate, as that seems more like the comics)
M.A.(specialization/individual stat):15 (A.V. Only)
M.A.(specialization/individual stat):16 (O.V. Only)
Accuracy (Bracer Deflection):16 (assuming Aegis Bracers; if using any other bracelets/medium, skill is reflective of DEX/other appropriate Weaponry skill)
Other details (Lasso power rankings/whatnot) are dependent on writer-run, so I’m less nit-picky about those…
The only thing I’d add (for the sake of completion/carry-over from pre-New Earth) is True Sight, maybe at 12 or so, to represent her link to Athena (which while not played up as much as before then, still narratively existed — and was stated as such in a couple different issues, such as Amazons Attack — as still existing). Again, just a suggestion…
Sorry for the wall-’o-text. Thanks for reading it and again thank you (and your contributors) so much for maintaining this site. Even if I disagree with a few details here and there, your collective work is still more than anything I, or most others, could ever find the time/energy to make available for the general public!
