“Al Afghani”
Context
This character briefly appeared in 2002 WildStorm Comics series StormWatch: Team Achilles. He didn’t even have a name, so we made something up.
”The Afghan” is a common nickname for volunteers who fought with Afghan mudjaheedeen in the 1980s or were trained in terrorist camps in Taliban Afghanistan in the 1990s. Though in Afghanistan proper, “Afghani” is the language.
This bloke gets a profile since he represents a useful and under-used type of antagonist. The fighter with knock-off super-soldier tech in his body, with low superhuman abilities but no greater-than-life character to him. Having stats and a sample for this seemed useful.

Powers and Abilities
“Al Afghani” seems to have peak human physical abilities, superhuman strength and combat computers and visual implant not unlike those of the Midnighter. He can thus run a combat in his head many times to analyse it – before anybody has struck a blow.
His blows are particularly lethal. He can decapitate a normal man by firmly holding his head and punching the body back.
History
“Al Afghani” was a part of a small terrorist cell entirely made up of superhumans. Other members were the leader Hassan I-Sabbah, the twin brothers Hamat and Hamoq, Aswad and Ash Shams) who attacked the UN building in Manhattan.
This attack had actually been aided and abetted by the criminal director of a Homeland Security agency, Ivana Baiul. She even hired the mercenary called the Steel Scarab to provide air support and monitoring for the assault.
Countered
However, the assault was eventually thwarted by the UN’s brand new commando team, Team Achilles, and a superhuman cretin called Giant. During the fighting, much of the strike force was killed, except for Hassan and Aswad.
Al Afghani, in particular, engaged Jukko Hämäläinen in hand to hand combat. He was amazed when a baseline human proved to be his match.
Giant then came in by crashing through a wall. This projected sharp pieces of wood through the battlefield, injuring and killing several civilians. ”Al Afghani” was unlucky enough to have a huge sliver, the size of a man’s arm, impale him near the throat.
Hämäläinen immediately seized the occasion to choke him, using the sliver as a lever. ”Al Afghani” was passing out when Giant, for no clear reason, burned through the terrorist’s skull with his eyebeams, killing him on the spot.

A confident, super-macho type. A bit like a bad guy pro wrestler.
