Antro from Deathweb (Avengers West Coast enemies)

Antro

Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

Deathweb are a trio of spider-themed enforcers. They appeared in 1992/93 Avengers West Coast and Spider-Woman storylines.

They have a profile thanks to an old Dragon Magazine article about them, as an easy stats conversion. Thus, their profile will need to be redone to more modern standards one of ’em days. Plus, it seems limited to the Avengers storyline.

Powers and Abilities

Antro wears a battlesuit whose power and tech can be compared to the Beetle suits. It is extremely manoeuvrable (even being able to cling on walls), enhances reflexes and strength, and is quite durable.

Weapon systems include acid projectors in the “mandibles”, and web-shooters on the wrists.

The suit’s most interesting feature is to facilitate what Antro call the “trapdoor effect” . This a teleportation field that enables him to teleport away, taking his enemies and/or allies along as long as they are reasonably close to him when he departs.

The tactical applications of the trapdoor effect are quite interesting, and allow him to literally take apart large groups of opponents.

History

See the Arachne (Sylvia Yaqua) character profile, to avoid repetition.

Description

Under the armour, Antro seems to be Chinese-American.

Personality

Given the amazing abilities of his armor, Antro acts arrogant and overconfident in combat.

However, he loses control of a situation (and his temper) quickly if bested and is quick to blame others for his mistakes. He’s the perfect bully – tough and brave when he has the upper hand, but quick to lose his nerve when the battle starts to turn.

Deathweb seem to operate on a freelance basis, and as such are available for hire for the arch-nemesis of any given heroes.
