History

Ash Shams (“The sun”) was a part of a small, superhuman terrorist cell. In 2002, they attacked the UN building in Manhattan. Beyond Ash Shams, the attackers were :

This attack was covertly aided and abetted by the criminal director of a Homeland Security agency, Ivana Baiul. She even hired the mercenary called the Steel Scarab to provide air support and monitoring for the assault.

However, the assault was eventually thwarted by the UN’s brand new commando team, Team Achilles, and a superhuman cretin called Giant. During the fighting, much of the strike force was killed, except for Hassan and Aswad.

Total eclipse

Ash Shams, in particular, was airborne when the Steel Scarab was downed then incapacitated by the Team Achilles snipers. Ash Shams tried to help the Scarab, but wasn’t sure how.

At this point the zone became saturated with gas. Ash Shams assumed it was tear gas and arrogantly flamed on. Steel Scarab tried to warn him, but too late. Ash Shams’ flame detonated the FAE charge that was floating around them.

Personality

As Shams seems pretty big on the “we’re better than them” trip, both as a superhuman and a terrorist.

From Steel Scarab’s comments, he seems to be an inexperienced, idealistic and overconfident young man – seldom a good combination.

Quotes

“The police are trying to use tear gas on me. Imagine. Tear gas. It is time for me to teach these bugs what real power is.”

Design Notes

His abilities are very poorly documented, so much of this is extrapolation. I’ve basically made him a poor man’s Human Torch.
