Context
These are older technical notes about Marvel’s Atlanteans – Namor’s people. Mostly it was part of the first stab at standardising modelisation of Atlantean abilities.

Atlantean physiology
Atlanteans strength has never been very clear, official estimates ranging from “ten times human strength” to a low Class 10 underwater. I’ve struck a medium that seems to fit the primary sources.
Atlanteans have a strong physiological need for water (preferable sea water), and an almost mystical bond with it. The effects are :
- When they’re not immersed in water, Atlanteans lose two APs of STR and one AP of BODY (effects may be stronger for specimen with abnormally high STR and BODY).
- Average Atlanteans have a Fatal Vulnerability to lack of waterbreathing – they start to “drown” after 5 minutes without water. Strong and well-trained specimen can “hold their breath” for twice that time.
- Atlanteans are quite susceptible to attacks intended to speed dehydration. Not only do they have the straight Attack Vulnerability noted in Drawbacks, but heat and flame attacks weaken them even more quickly – each two RAPs lower their STR by one until they can fully immerse themselves in water.
