Context

This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.

Powers and Abilities

Claims to have a colony of nanites  in his blood (à la The Engineer). Wilheim can coat his body in a gold and silver seamless metallic “skin” hat has extremely adaptable properties. He can alter his hands and arms into various weapons. In DC Heroes RPG terms, that’s Energy Blast, Projectile Weapons and such.

  • He can also grant himself increased strength, vastly higher than his normal levels.
  • He summons wings of light from his back.
  • He also can communicate, control, and transform machines, computers, and robots at will.
  • Lastly, in his armored form, he has strong mental defenses, including a painful, “Counter Charge” for when he is struck telepathically.

Personality

Wilheim is a prototypical geek. He knows machinery from just by touching it, he can communicate with robots and androids on a telepathic level and can sense them.

His ability to understand the rest of humanity pales by comparison and he suffers from fear and awkwardness as a result. He has a few friends, but tends to be better “online” or in costume than face to face.

He also readily sees the possibility of artificial sentience, and would surely fight for the rights of such a being. However, he still has a great love for humanity and needs human contact though he might deny it, even to himself.

He is loyal to his friends and new family in the Host, he respects his benefactors at the Consortium and holds nothing but contempt for those who use their power to lord over those weaker then they.

History

Wilheim VonGorten was a child prodigy, a genius in computers and mathematics. He was considered to be the next Einstein. His brother, Jon, was two years younger and equally gifted. The boys began college at the ages of 12 and 10 respectively and were on talkshows and featured in magazine articles.

It was about this time that the ugly side of the world took notice in them. The VonGorten brothers were abducted one night during a commando raid consisting of agents representing the Big Six. The Big Six were a shadow organization created by the six richest, and most potent world governments, they acted to keep the world at a status quo.

The Big Six weren’t the only group interested in the VonGorten boys, the Consortium, an organization dedicated to the scientific and scholarly evolution of the planet. The Consortium agents, who had been watching the boys from the time they were each three, leapt into action.

However, when the fighting stopped, Jon was dead as were the Big Six agents. Wilheim was sent to a Consortium facility in Japan.

Consorted

Raised in a very well structured, but mostly anesthetic environment, Wilheim became a veritable scientific saint. He could seemingly do miracles. When the High attempted to force the world to become a better place, Wilheim recognized the Engineer’s nanotechnology and theorized that he was indeed one of the Consortium’s prodigies. He was saddened by the death of the man.

He watched the Authority with great interest, and when they were “lost” and replaced by a very similar team (actually created by the Big Six), he realized that the Engineer analog was merely using the same technology, which would have required a blood transfusion of the prior one.

It was Wilheim’s investigations into the disappearance of the Authority that led to the creation of the Second Host. He managed to not only find the Big Six bases, he managed to locate and recruit a group of heroes to replace them. Then he set about creating his new personae, the Avatar.

Description

Wilheim is a fairly normal looking man in his early 20s. He has spiky black hair and tends to dress like a hero from anime  adventures, Asian-style uniforms, or apocalyptic “cool” clothes (always with a long coat). He wears glasses for show and an earring in his right ear.

He is tall with an athletic build thanks to a decade of martial arts training (mostly for exercise) and the Avatar process.

In the Avatar form, he appears to have gleaming gold and silver skin with large rounded “studs” on his shoulder and forarms. Two odd looking metal “posts” spread from his shoulderblades, from these he spreads his light “wings”. His face becomes angular, like an anime robot with a solid golden “hair piece”.

DC Universe History

Well, he fits mostly with the Wildstorm Universe, but I suppose he could be… no, I’ve got nothing.
