Black Knight from the Foundation d20 RPG

Black Knight

(Foundation RPG)

Circa 2000 there was a big wave of tabletop RPGs based on the d20 system. The Foundation was an early one, and a super-hero-themed one. Back then I was getting every super-hero RPG, so I’ve got a copy.

It’s a terrible game and at best a footnote in RPG history. I converted a few of the more generic characters for reasons that now elude me.

  • Real Name: Timothy Lark.
  • Marital Status: Unrevealed.
  • Known Relatives: None.
  • Group Affiliation: Shadow Empire.
  • Base Of Operations: Mobile.
  • Height: 5’11” Weight: 130lbs. Age: 22
  • Eyes: Brown Hair: Dirty blond

Powers and Abilities

Speedster . His ability to run and move much faster than normal give him a mobility and agility advantage against most opponents.

Timothy Lark was a teenage hacker whom the Black King enlisted as a computer specialist. Lark was constantly swallowing some form of sugar or caffeine, so the Black King tried a high-energy serum on him. The serum interacted with an unknown mutant factor to accelerate Lark’s body.

Lark was first assigned to the Black Queen as a bodyguard, in case her sword was misplaced or stolen. When the Black Queen’s hit team was formed, he became the team’s speed and computer support.

See illustration.

Chaotic Evil. No, really. That’s all we know about that in the source material.

DC Universe History

The Shadow Empire is your basic conspiracy with agents patterned after chess pieces – a popular pattern in super-hero universes. It is probably better to take its members and turn them into henchmen for some similar conspiracy you use in your campaign.

In the DCU, they might be a small criminal organisation organized as a “shadow image” of the governmental organisation Checkmate. Black Knight’s suit even resembles a Checkmate uniform. In the Marvel Universe they may have worked for Obadiah Stane.
