Blacksmith
(Goibhne the Maker)
Context
This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.
Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.
This specific character was part of a RPG campaign run by writeups.org contributor Bil.

Powers and Abilities
As a corporeal god, Goibhne (pronounced GUY-nee) is virtually immortal, and extremely durable. His strength is incredible, and his muscles and bones are four times as dense as mortal tissues.
He also is extremely hard to fool, either with illusions or any form of invisibility, as his eyes do not truly see light. He can see the presence of magic, and knows about cosmic scale incidents at an instinctive level.
As befits a god of the forge, he has potent control over metallic substances, and can manipulate magnetic fields with only a conscious thought. He cannot manipulate metals on a molecular scale, however.
Gear and skills
In addition to a knowledge of occult artifacts and their manufacture, Blacksmith has whole-heartedly embraced modern technology. His skill with devices is matched by few, and surpassed only by Springer, and a select few others.
In addition, like most of the rest of his pantheon, Goibhne is an accomplished bard. He prefers percussion instruments and his own clear voice, but is proficient with many other instruments.
For combat, he wields a hammer that was one of his first creations. It is nearly indestructible, and he wields it with skill garnered from thousands of years of combat against the Fomori, ancient enemies of his pantheon. It can manipulate metallic materials on a molecular level as he concentrates on it, with such alterations being completely permanent.
In addition, he can cause it to surround itself in intense flames, or guide itself once he has hurled it at a foe. The power of a strike from his hammer is rivaled only by a blow from Powerhouse, or perhaps Varak. Only a Celtic deity, or one of direct maternal descent from a Celtic deity, may wield his hammer.

History
Much of Blacksmith’s history is lost in the shrouded mists of time. According to Celtic myth, the Tuatha De Danaan fought a series of wars against the monstrous Fomori, before finally being driven out by the Milesians. The latter are thought to be the ancient ancestors of the Irish.
If this is so, then their retreat from Ireland had to be of their own volition. Only the most incredibly powerful of metahumans can hope to face deities on the power level of Blacksmith, let alone an entire pantheon of such a power level.
He returned to Earth in the early 1960’s. He founded the international task force of the U.N., known as UNION, and has adventured as its leader ever since.
Description
A 6’8”, 650 lb. giant, he strides through life as a larger than life figure.
He wears modern clothes under normal circumstances, and is usually well-dressed. In combat, he goes shirtless, with green breeches and Celtic boots, his long red hair pulled back in a ponytail. His arms are wrapped with metal bands, and he wears a torque around his neck.
The only feature that really distinguishes him from human, however, is his long, pointed ears.
Personality
A Renaissance man, Goibhne is relatively humble and matter-of-fact about his abilities. He is usually casual about anything that goes on, but is deadly serious about the welfare of his team, and about combat situations.
DC Universe History
Blacksmith _might_ have some sort of connection to either Captain Marvel (Billy Batson) or Wonder Woman, but it may not be a friendly one at first, given the relations Rome had with the Celtic peoples.
Or, he could have come to Earth following the War of the Gods , to be an adventurer.
