Bliss
(Nicole Calahan)
Context
DV8 (pronounced “deviants”) was a 1995 Image Comics series about edgy super-powered kids. Self-centred and self-indulgent, their lives are controlled by a murderous intelligence conspiracy managed by one Ivana Baiul.
Though the book’s sales made returns of the characters difficult to obtain, the existing fan base seems to have been quite dedicated.

Powers and Abilities
Bliss is a Gen-Active of the second generation, child of a member of the Team 7 who were the first exposed to the Gen-Factor. Her power gives her the ability to tremendously stimulate the pain/pleasure system of her target, up to the point of killing them.
When used for pain, it’s an incredible mean of torture. When used for pleasure, prolonged contact can become addictive. Either way, it leaves the target very opened to suggestions.
History
Along with her brother, she’s one of the first Gen-Active child that Ivana Baiul trusted enough to take a leading role in her Project; Genesis. Notice this trust was hammered with a big deal of brainwashing, particularly with the tale of their parent’s deaths, at the hand of Black Razors, because they were traitors to I.O..

Bliss was in charge of ensuring Gen 13’s cooperation. She started hitting on Burnout to achieve this goal.
When Project: Genesis was compromised by Lynch’s treachery, Bliss fled with Ivana and the cryogenic pods containing the rest of DV8. Nevertheless, she was the one Ivana had the less control over. She had to constantly monitor her.
As an officially entrusted I.O. officer, Bliss had certain freedom of movement. Ivana could not prevent it without rising doubts about her own motivations. Indeed, Ivana planned to use DV8 as a personal guard and a way to reach I.O.’s directorship.
Manipulations
With her power, Bliss constantly maintained a sexual pressure on his brother. Were it not for Threshold mental strength, she would have made a puppet out of him. To reach this same end, she joined Burnout and Gen 13 in Rome where they confronted Vatican’s “Order of the Cross” SPBs team (sic).
Back in the hideout in Caballito Island, Ivana had Copycat control her just to try to teach her who was the master. Unknown to them, Copycat was possessed by the mind of a saurian Kindred whose body died while she was controlling him.
This extra personality laid dormant until Bliss fell victim of Copycat’s control power. At that point, it passed to Bliss’ more promising mind and emerged as the leading personality. But the others people around were still oblivious of it.
Saurian mind
Thinking the message went clearly in, Ivana put Bliss in command of investigation/recruitment missions. Nicole took the opportunity to enhance her control over the team’s males (indeed, only Evo was left as Threshold deserted, powerless Frostbite resigned and Powerhaus was dead). At last, the saurian personality fully emerged and Bliss started to kick ass.
Unfortunately, DV8’s series ended at that point, with:
- Bliss overthrowing Ivana.
- Sublime and Frostbite joining Ivana’s opponents in I.O..
- Sideways Bob torturing Evo to force the previous two to come back.
- Copycat not experiencing personality troubles anymore.
Description
Nicole is a striking woman in her late teens. She has long auburn hair and blue eyes. She always dress in highly sexy outfits.
Personality
She’s a manipulator and a user. Sex is her tool as well as her recreation. She knocked boots with nearly all the male members of the team, including her own brother. Hell, she could even had done the girls if the writer let go.
She particularly enjoys to kill her day to day boy toy (the one that Ivana gives her from I.O.’s agents). Killing them with pleasure needless to say.
Quotes
“Nicole Calahan. They call me Bliss. And I can make you feel nice…”
DC Universe History
Well basically they’re a bunch of freaks, thugs and psychopaths (sorry, anti-heroes) so I suppose they’d be dandy as the new group from Mento, after he lost control of the Hybrid. That would make them foes of the Titans, which is quite fitting IMHO.
