Buzzcut (Cyberforce enemy)

Buzzcut

(Trent Peterson)

Context

Cyberforce was one of the launch titles for Image Comics, back in 1992. I wouldn’t say it was great, especially in hindsight, but it was pretty.

Some stuff from the book ended up in one of my 1990s super-hero campaigns for some reason. So I still have *very* old notes about some of the characters, such as Buzzcut here.

Powers and Abilities

Buzzcut is huge, super-strong, super-tough mutant bruiser.

His three right arms were fitted with huge armoured buzzsaws. Hence the name.

He revels in blood and killing and is an impulsive, irrational, extremely violent fighter.

History

Trent Peterson was born with three arms on the right side of his body. That was apparently the result of a secret project (probably government-sponsored) intended to give birth to mutants, headed by doctor Peter Reinbeck.

Peterson is thus one of an unknown number of gamma 4 (γ4) subjects. Their features include four asymmetrical arms, great aggressiveness and superb hand-eye coordination.

The same project gave birth to a gamma 2 strain, including Ballistic. Large-scale experiences were apparently made later on, during the Việt Nam war. These killed hundreds of Vietnamese women in order to give birth to useful mutants.

Musclebound

Peterson seems to have been born in the 1950’s. He was raised by an extremely violent father in a backwater area. As a youth he was a clumsy, musclebound oaf.

In order to win respect and flee his father, he enrolled at 17. He became fascinated with weapons and violence during basic, and found his calling.

While he was unstable and a certifiable sociopath, his strength, endurance, multiple arms and extreme ability with weapons allowed him to stay with the army.

’Nam

Peterson served during the Việt Nam War with a Special Forces platoon made up of other Reinbeck mutants. It included another γ4 called Stryker.

Peterson alienated himself from the unit by always being aloof and experiencing numerous berserk episodes during combat. His comrades asked numerous times for him to be reassigned, as they rightly saw his behavior as a threat to themselves.

During a long-range recon, he blew a fuse a single-handedly massacred a farming village. Stryker managed to stop him and almost killed him. It was apparently during this mission that, due to Peterson’s behavior, Stryker lost three of his arms.

Peterson was sent to the brig for years. He probably received the Reinbeck life prolonging elixir there.

State of SHOC

Meanwhile, Stryker became a SHOC (Special Hazardous Operations Cyborg) for the Cyberdata corporation. But he eventually escaped, with what would become Cyberforce.

Cyberdata went looking for a subject to replace Stryker, and naturally found Peterson. He was massively augmented, strengthened and brainwashed. They also amputated three of his hands to give him cybernetically-controlled buzzsaws.

Buzzcut was then sent against any enemy of Cyberdata, and is especially eager to kill Stryker.

Personality

Buzzcut is a brutal, bloodthirsty, ultraviolent barbarian. He’s quite irrational, and as dangerous for his allies as he is for his enemies.

Buzzcut can be called a textbook example of a cyberpsycho .

Description

Buzzcut is a grotesquely huge and powerful mountain of muscles with a small head. He wears a red, featureless body suit with armor plating on the shoulders, making him even wider.

His three right arms are obviously cybernetic, and each ends with an armored, huge buzzsaw, chainsaw or hacksaw.

DC Universe History

Replace Cyberdata with Lexcorp, and here you go ! The SHOC become variations on the Team Luthor theme, and the Kraken (for those of you who read Cyberforce) would have been a master weapon intended against Superman.

The Cyberdata mess in the last few months of 1996 would be replaced by the seeming death of Luthor and the appearance of Luthor II, so you’ll have to position Cyberforce in the early 1990s.
