Charger

(Mike Smith)

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.

As to Charger – I recently found several old character sheets of mine from different RPGs. One of these was my Marvel RPG character named the Charger whom I played several years. He was fun and became very powerful in time.

Here’s a MEGS conversion of the mutant hero known as Charger!!

Powers and Abilities

All of Charger’s powers are derived from his ability to absorb cosmic energy into himself.

He can unleash huge amounts of absorbed energy from himself, converted into kinetic energy, by charging an opponent or object (this common stunt has given him his heroic name). He can also unleash cosmic energy blasts which equal the power of a small nuclear weapon.

His anatomy can also metabolize the energy into his muscles enabling him to jump extended distances and lift/hit harder than usual. The energy is also metabolized to a large degree into superhuman strength and stamina, enabling him to be bullet-proof and lift several hundred tons. His strength also enables him to inhale/exhale air with the force of a hurricane.

Many years of studying and practical use in the field has taught him near-superhuman ability in fighting and he’s become an expert detective. From his time as a soldier, before his heroing era, he retains several military skills and the ability to use weapons.

In time, Charger will probably develop new abilities by further manipulating the cosmic energy he contains.

History

Mike Smith aka the Charger is a mutant born with the extraordinary ability to absorb cosmic energy into himself and use it for many different purposes. Like most mutants his powers erupted during his early teens.

Most of his early years were used for studying and working within many different fields. Always believing in the good of all things and that he had been granted the gift of superpowers, he saw no choice except to become a superhero. Additionally, superheroing would offer him the adventures that he always had craved.

Hated, as mutants in the Marvel Universe often are, so too was Charger. His exploits were ridiculed in the pages of the various magazines owned by J. Jonah Jameson. Charger was generally seen as a mutant menace and a criminal.

Heroing

During many years as a hero Charger developed his radiation-based abilities further and eventually became among the most powerful heroes in New York City. Charger fought the Hulk in the middle of NY City and was nearly killed when Hulk left the city.

Later the Charger worked together with Dr. Bruce Banner to refine his abilities and study various cosmic energy related effects. He also defeated the Blob, Spymaster, etc. As a known mutant, Charger was often the target of the mutant-hunting Marauders, with whom he clashed many times.

He crossed ways and often cooperated with heroes such as Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and Captain America (Steve Rogers) (with whom he became a close friend). He worked for and with the organization called SHIELD and occasionally with some non-prejudiced members of the NYPD. In time he had met nearly every hero and villain in the NY City area.

Eventually, his adventures brought him a vast fortune and the Charger built a superbly luxurious home for himself. Still craving adventures and still wanting to do the right thing Charger continues the eternal fight against crime and injustice.

Description

Charger is a huge man with bulky muscles. He moves around like a body-builder who’s taken too many steroids.

He always appears to be tense and ready to go into action and probably only is relaxed in his home.

His costume is, unfortunately, lost to time and could have looked like anything…

Personality

Charger believes in doing the good things. He loves adventuring and meeting new villains and heroes. He uses various battle cries and is often, by others, seen as impulsive and brash. The truth is, he knows what he does and why, but simply enjoys the adventures too.

The Charger is very easy to get along with and he easily makes friends with other heroes and members of various law-enforcement agencies. The public mind is poisoned by foul lies about him, but he can handle it. He understands that there is nothing he can do about J Jonah Jameson (they spoke once, but it didn’t help) and turns the blind eye to his public reputation.

Honesty and Truth are important to Charger, but that won’t stop him from getting into a good fight if the motifs are right. Even though he’s powerful, good-hearted and friendly his personality is pretty much like any ordinary guy’s.

Quotes

“Chaaarge !”

DC Universe History

Well, Charger is powerful, and originally from the Marvel Universe, but could be inserted as a cosmic energy wielding hero. Of course he would have worked with Captain Atom and Superman. He would have fought Rampage and Major Force…h-ck, even Darkseid would have fought him once.

Mutants are big in the DC Universe and so he could be a metahuman whose powers erupted either from him having tried to save people from a fire or from experiments performed at STAR Labs or LEXCorp.
