Chief Galen Tyrol (Aaron Douglas in Battlestar Galactica)

Chief Galen Tyrol

Battlestar Galactica is a 2004+ military sci-fi TV series. It is a reinvention of a 1978 TV series. Nevertheless it’s one of those major, much better TV series of the 2000s with much more complex plots, grittier settings, heavier themes, etc. than in previous decades.

The core plot of the series is the flight of the last survivors of humanity after the cataclysmic attack by the alien Cylons. The titular Battlestar Galactica is the last capital ship left for the ragged human refugees.

Our BSG2004 profiles are short notes for people who watched the series. As such they have S P O I L E R S and are primarily about DC Heroes RPG capsule stats.

Powers and Abilities

The Chief the senior NCO amongst Galactica’s technical people. He is the best VIPER repair and maintenance tech in the fleet.

In a fight Chief Tyrol is pragmatic, a skilled combat leader. He can take a brutal amount of punishment and keep on fighting. He is equally at home fighting with pistols, heavy weapons, or his bare hands.

Prior to the Apocalypse the Chief was the Deck Chief of the Galactica.

He also was caring on a forbidden affair with Sharon “Boomer” Valerii. The affair continued afterward during the long run from the Cylons. The chief truly loved her and found himself drawn into deeper and deeper into a web of covering for her amnesiac episodes.

Unbeknownst to either of them she was a Cylon plant and did not consciously know it. When Boomer was exposed it broke the Chief’s heart and nearly destroyed his career.

When a reincarnation of Boomer appeared pregnant with Helo’s baby he was torn between betrayal, love, and feelings that he could not discern. At first he conflicted with Helo then together they became her champions as both men loved her.

When not chasing his heart’s desire the Chief was responsible for any number of minor miracles and the creation of the Blackbird stealth viper.

He is a big florid man who has been formed by years of working with his hands and fighting with them if required. He is bulky but decidedly agile.

He looks very much like the Senior NCO that he is.

The Chief is hard drinking, hard laughing, hard working and utterly beloved of his crew. He is a man who can be depended on to the wire if you have his faith. The Chief still carries a strange torch for Sharon.

DC Universe History

Battlestar Galactica is a self contained story and the characters should only be used there. It could be interesting to have a guns-and-planes character visit the Galactica Universe.
