Powers and Abilities
The Confessor is a humongous combat and assassination machine. He’s incredibly strong, fast and agile. He’s practically unstoppable through conventional means. His level of training and the fact that he apparently benefits from some anti-agathic treatment suggest ties with the Red Room program.
His costume and weapons are based on Russian Orthodox symbolism in order to destabilize religious opponents. But the only piece of religion-based weapon that was seen was his explosive rosary.
His destabilizing tactics do not stop with symbols mostly useful against Russians. He fed Maverick an almost certainly false story about his parents being National Socialist activists. This was quite successful in diverting his target’s attention. In DC Heroes RPG terms, such distractions are represented by his Psy-ops Schtick.
History
The Confessor was secretly groomed and reared since birth to assume the role of assassin and prized interrogator for the KGB. He has been around since at least the birth of the Cold War.
He was in Venice during the 1950s. There he killed a defecting KGB cryptographer that NATO’s Cell Six was attempting to ship to the US. During that assassination he sent Cell Six member Christoph Nord, the future Maverick, plummeting from a church’s bell tower.
It is possible that the Confessor was in touch with Ginetta Barsalini, Maverick’s double agent wife.

Games of death and deceit
40 years later the Confessor, who obviously had not slowed down one iota, was hired by powerful crimelord Ivan the Terrible. The job was to recover his imprisoned henchman, Sickle. Sickle was detained at the Ice Box, a super-high security Canadian military prison intended for the most dangerous prisoners.
The Confessor cut through the security like a hot chainsaw through butter. He left an untold number of bodies behind and bringing Sickle to Ivan the Terrible. The crimelord then contracted him to bring Maverick in.
Likely locating Maverick through ex-KGB contacts, the Confessor left him a note leading his target to an ambush in Berlin. There he took Nord down and delivered him to Ivan’s men.
Description
See illustration.
Personality
Formerly a loyal agent of the State. Now a implacably professional mercenary. He makes it clear that he does not approve of this brave new world, without wasting time about it.
The Confessor seems attracted to religious motifs that reinforce his own — for instance, he will usually snipe from a church.
Quotes
“ Oh, yes — I know all about you, Christoph Nord. But fear not. I am the Confessor. I will absolve you of all your sins.” (nearly kills Nord)
Sickle III: “So now what ? Where’s the airlift ?”
Confessor: “There isn’t any. We hoof it from here.”
“As you wish, sinner. Time for penance.”
DC Universe History
The Confessor would be a product of the same program that originally brought us the KGBeast.

Design Notes
The Confessor being a particularly mysterious figure, this entry includes a fair bit of speculation stats-wise.
