Powers and Abilities
Disaster Master is generally considered the most powerful aqua-, pyro-, and terrakinetic on Earth.
- His most used abilities are based around his terrakinesis. He is capable of creating tunnels through natural rock and earth and most often rides a wave of earth and rock as a means of travel. He also creates massive ripples and waves through the ground to harm his enemies, and sense potential earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
- His pyrokinetic abilities include control of fire as well as absorption of heat and fire. When within about 100 yards of a significant source of heat or fire, he can immolate himself.
- Disaster Master’s aquakinesis is odd in that he can control both water and ice. He can operate in water just as easily as he operates on land, propel himself at great speed in or under water, stand on water as if it were solid ground, and in freezing temperatures or near large quantities of ice, he can cover himself in a sheet of ice that is blisteringly cold.
He is also known to be capable of summoning earth, fire, ice, and water elementals, but rarely does so. Usually he will only do this if outnumbered more than five to one.
Other abilities
Disaster Master and Storm Rider share some abilities:
- To speak, read, and write any terrestrial language (including dead languages).
- To be physically resilient and superhumanly strong (though Disaster Master is significantly moreso than Storm Rider).
- To recover quickly from harm.

History
The second Disaster Master first appeared in November 13, 1985. He cam in and amplified the eruption of Nevado del Ruiz . This not only produced the Armero tragedy, the worst lahar ever, but it also almost leveled the volcano itself. He was only driven off after being fought and defeated by Thunderbolt.
After Nevado del Ruiz, Disaster Master began appearing just before earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and floods occured. Many believed he caused these disasters. The press gave him the name Disaster Master after the Silver Age scientific villain that engineered disasters for purposes of extortion.
Even after it was revealed that he only senses and amplifies existing natural disasters, the name Disaster Master stuck.
Storm Rider
In 1991, Storm Rider and Disaster Master II met for the first time in India. He had sensed her while he had just amplified an earthquake in the nation of Georgia. She had just amplified the 1991 Bangladesh cyclone. Their meeting and subsequent actions were considered absolutely scandalous and obscene by the media of the region.
The two were seen together often afterward, but during the Atlantic hurricane season, she is more often found there while Disaster Master is more often found somewhere along the Pacific Ring of Fire.
To date, Disaster Master’s single worst event is the 2004 Indonesian earthquake and tsunami. He amplified the main quake and one of the aftershocks. This became the single greatest natual disaster of the 21st century to date.
Disaster Master was only seen a few times in the Pacific Northwest in 1994. Each time he was spotted, he was seen with some sort of animal that he had apparently killed. While normally confrontational, simply left with no challenge.
Neither he nor Storm Rider appeared at any sort of natural disaster from June 1994 to March 1995. It is believed that Storm Rider was pregnant at this time.
Return
According to the current Avatar of Gaia, the Rhythm Dancer, Disaster Master approached her to be midwife in March 1995. Rhythm Dancer later lamented that the child was still-born.
Neither Disaster Master nor Storm Rider would be seen until they both assaulted Yellowstone National Park in June 21, 1995. Disaster Master attempted to cause the super volcano beneath the park to erupt while Storm Rider created vast blizzard conditions during the Summer Solstice.
They were stopped by Rhythm Dancer, the Defenders of Freedom, and a vast number of members of the Metahuman Training and Research Institute. This is the only known time that Storm Rider and Disaster Master actively attempted to create a disaster instead of amplifying existing natural phenomena.
Description
Disaster Master is a large, powerfully built Samoan man, and ruggedly handsome. He normally wears his shoulder-length hair long and wild, but sometimes ties it back with a vine or anything else he finds handy.
Due to his absolute disdain of civilization, he more often than not goes nude, but has been seen wearing a loincloth of some sort occasionally. He also has a Pe’a, a traditional Samoan tattoo that covers his body from just below his ribs to his knees.
Personality
Disaster Master is best summed up as an absolute Alpha Male. He tries to remain appearing calm and collected, but in any confrontation, he will eventually explode with fury. He is known to hate society in general and makes no secret of this fact.
Just like Storm Rider, Disaster Master only rarely creates natural disasters, but he does amplify and direct them. Unlike Storm Rider, he deliberately goes for the most devastation he can. He goes for the biggest disaster with the most elements he can use at one time.
When challenged, Disaster Master likes to brawl as well as use his powers. He most often uses his powers to close the gap and then begins manhandling. When fighting, he has been seen using many maneuvers from Lua, a traditional Hawaiian martial art.
Quotes
“Earth. Fire. Water. They bring life and death. You will respect them.”
“You seek to tame the elements ? You cannot. I will not allow it !”
Disaster Master II: “You cannot stop Nature.”
Storm Rider (smiling maniacally): “But you can die trying.”
