Doppelganger
Context
This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.
Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.
This specific character was part of the Wild Hunt, a community-created super-team circa the year 2000.
Powers and Abilities
Doppleganger lives vicariously through others. He is able to take the form of other people and of animals, and is able to duplicate the powers of other metahumans.
History
The person known as Doppleganger began his life as a metahuman with the detonation of the Dominators’ Gene Bomb in the late 1980s. At that point his form became unstable and he was forced to wear a mask due to his inability to control his facial distortions.
Over time, he learned to control his abilities better and began working to uncover and punish corporate crime through impersonating key individuals.
His life as a costumed superhero began only recently. While infiltrating the Bruenhoff Foundation he encountered some metahuman guards and realized he had the ability to duplicate their powers.
Doppleganger decided this powerful ability would go to waste if he did not surround himself with super powered beings. Further inspired by the legends of the original Doom Patrol, he fashioned himself a costume and began to wage his war publicly.
Description
Doppleganger is a moderately muscular man, standing about 5’8” tall.
He wears a dark blue body suit with black gloves, boots, and a full face mask. On his chest is a symbol that looks like the yin-yang, but in black and red.
Personality
Doppleganger functions as the “Huntsmen Espionage Squad.” He is secretive about his past, his identity and the nature of his powers. He is not naturally trusting and may seem somewhat cold and distant.
Doppleganger may vanish for periods of time while going undercover into situations, and he may later appear without any explanation of his whereabouts.
