Elements of doom
Context
The Elements of Doom are an odd, a rather large, group of Marvel Comics villains. They appeared in 1979, a date that shall live in infamy.
You see, there’s one of these guys for every box in the periodic table. So researching, writing, statting, illustrating, editing, laying out, etc. this entry took forever and an electron. Because there are so many elements. So many.
Please have these guys appear in your campaign. Even if it’s just a cameo. Please make all this work worthwhile ! Many Bhotans died, etc. etc.

Background
- Known Relatives: Each other.
- Group Affiliation: The Elements of Doom.
- Base Of Operations: Mobile.
- Note: The heights and APs of Growth are rough estimates from the art, and in some cases the Element in question appears different sizes at different points. The weights are estimates based on their Density Increase and Growth.
Powers and Abilities
All the Elements are larger, and stronger, than normal humans, and are composed entirely of their respective elements. Their forms are unable to speak, but they have limited telepathic abilities which allow them to communicate with each other, and with lowly humans, overcoming any language barriers.
When they became pure elemental beings (rather than mutated humans), they developed more control over their forms. They became able to stretch or otherwise manipulate their bodies, which they often use to create wings which allow them to fly.
Their bodies can withstand enormous damage, even being shattered into rubble, but they can recover from almost any level of damage, apart from destabilisation devices designed by Dr. Khandruvitch.

History
(The original Elements appeared as the Elements of Alchemy in Avengers Collectors Edition #1. But there seems to be uncertainty as to whether this is in continuity or not, and since I don’t have the issue in question, I’m leaving it out of the history.)
The Russian scientist Dr. Vasily Khandruvitch invented a device which allowed him to transform humans into being composed purely of one element. The Russian government allowed him to test his device, in a nuclear reactor facility, where he created his initial batch (Vanadium, Carbon, Phosphorus, Chlorine, and Radium).
Unfortunately the Elements rebelled. They took control of the facility, intending to use human prisoners to transform into the remaining elements.
Avengers assemble
The Avengers, who happened to be passing through Russian airspace at the time, learned of the trouble at the reactor, and offered their assistance. When it was reluctantly received, they ventured into the facility, first coming into conflict with Vanadium, who provided them with some trouble, until Wonder Man shattered him into rubble.
When they confronted the remaining Elements, however, they found themselves overwhelmed, and were forced to retreat, but not before the Falcon was captured by the reformed Vanadium.
Wasp observed them transforming a helpless captive into Cobalt, and learned that the Falcon was their next prospective team mate. The Avengers attacked again, before the Falcon can be transformed. Ms. Marvel used a laser to damage the fusion reactor enough that the elements were buried in nuclear plasma, and seemingly destroyed.
Justice, like lightning…
Dr. Khandruvitch moved to America, where he recreated the elements, this time as purely artificial beings. He planned to use them to cause enough trouble to force the United Nations to give him an island nation in the Pacific, which he would populate with his Elements. After sinking a freighter, he threatened to use them at Madison Square Garden and La Guardia Airport.
With the Avengers and Fantastic Four presumed dead at this point, the Thunderbolts were asked to stop them. Some of the Thunderbolts prevented the Elements from destroying an airliner, helping it to land when the Elements left. Meanwhile the rest freed hostages at Madison Square Gardens.
But when they followed the Elements to the citadel they had erected in Central Park, the Thunderbolts were captured.
The Elements again turned on their creator. They promised not to harm him, out of gratitude for giving them life. But they intended for him to serve them, transforming all other humans into elemental creatures which would serve them.
Songbird and Techno got free of their restraints. While Songbird went to find Dr. Khandruvitch, Techno tried to free his team mates, and guide Songbird.
He’s surprised by Iron, who quickly snaps his neck, dumping his lifeless body on a waste pile. However contingencies set up by Techno downloaded a duplicate of his mind into an android body created from his tech-pack, which allowed him to free the remaining Thunderbolts.
After Songbird rescued Dr. Khandruvitch, Techno built the destabilisation ray to his specifications, allowing the Thunderbolts to eliminate the Elements fairly easily.
Avengers re-assemble
The Elements reappeared later, when AIM acquired the secret to their creation, and recreated them as weapons to serve AIM. When the Elements were let loose in the middle of St. Louis, the Avengers turned up to battle them.
Meanwhile Captain America and Jack of Hearts travelled to the prison where Dr. Khandruvitch was held, arriving in time to save him from Platinum, who had been dispatched to kill him.
Dr. Khandruvitch provided them with plans for the device to destabilise the Elements, allowing the Avengers to end their rampage.
Personality
Destroy puny humans, who are impure combinations of elements, and obviously inferior to the Elements. The Elements will rightfully rule the world.
DC Universe History
The Elements see the Metal Men as traitors, and often focus their attentions on forcing them to join. They have also developed a hatred of Firestorm, due to the ease with which he has dealt with them in the past.

Technical notes
Destabilisation Vulnerability
The Elements bodies are vulnerable to disruption of the crystalline matrix of their brains. The technology to perform this is known by Dr. Khandruvitch, who has shared it with Techno and the Avengers, and the Elements have previously tried to kill him to prevent the knowledge being passed on.
Previous Stats
While still mutated humans, the Elements didn’t have Self-Manipulation or Stretching.
Radioaktivität
The effects of Poison Touch (Radiation) have not been demonstrated in the source material, and GMs should feel free to interpret the effect of the RAPs. Any RAPs on Poison Touch indicates radioactive contamination, with a severity proportional to the RAPs.
The GM (and possibly the player) can decide the exact consequences depending on the Genre and tone of the campaign – from very realistic rules with RAPs corresponding to exposure in Grays, to a Silver Age comic book instant damage with no permanent effect if death doesn’t ensue (in game terms, a straight application of Poison Touch).
