“Supreme Ruler of this kingdom of Cobra-La.”

Context

Golobulus first appeared in the 1987 G.I. Joe movie. The one that ended Claster’s original run of the franchise before DIC took over.

Golobulus ruled the ancient civilization of Cobra-La for at least 40,000 years, keeping it hidden under an ice dome since the Ice Age.

More recently, he sent agents to retake the rest of the planet. He worked mostly through the terrorist organization Cobra, which “forced [G.I.Joe] into existence,” as its General Hawk put it.

History

In his own words:
“40,000 years ago, the glory of Cobra-La dominated this planet. But an age of ice destroyed much of what we had built. And with it began the time of the barbarians.”

“Surprisingly, they evolved, and gradually, they mastered a technology based on inorganic, lifeless substances. Their culture was a travesty of our own noble ways and a threat to our very existence. We retreated to preserve our ways and await an opportunity to reclaim the Earth.”

1970s

In the late 1970s, Golobulus hand-picked a “brilliant young nobleman” who’d been disfigured while working with experimental spores. Their goal was to start up a terrorist organization to take over the Earth and prepare it for Golobulus’s return to domination.

Unfortunately, the Cobra Commander’s ego, perhaps heightened by the same spores that disfigured him, prevented him from completing his mission.

Golobulus then sent a psychic motivator to show Dr. Mindbender how to create Serpentor to take over Cobra, and then the world.

Another plan

When that failed, he had Pythona send Serpentor after the newly invented Broadcast Energy Transmitter (BET).

Golobulus knew that once defeated, his errant nobleman would return to Cobra-La for sanctuary. Instead, Golobulus ordered him arrested and tried for his failures.

Having perfected the spores that struck the Cobra Commander, he then used the perfected version on him as punishment. Golobulus planned to cover the rest of the Earth with them once the BET was captured and could supply the pods with the needed energy.

Yo Joe!

Eventually, G.I.Joes Jinx, Lt. Falcon and Sgt. Slaughter entered the Cobra-La palace.

Falcon fought his way past Golobulus to the BET controls and shut them down. But as Golobulus said: “You are too late! Behold, the pods have matured ! There is no way to stop the spores! You have lost, G.I.Joe… LOST!”

While Golobulus was escaping, though, Falcon set the BET to overload. This destroyed the spores as they fell, as well as Cobra-La’s ice dome.

Golobulus was never seen since, and is presumed dead.

Description

Golobulus is a human being with a plant-based cybernetic left arm, a nine foot snake tail, a crustacean cybernetic right eye, and crustacean armor on what remains of his original body except his head.
