Gunfire

Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

The 1993 annual even for DC Comics, Bloodlines, was poorly received. But it introduced a slew of new characters, and some of those worked. Among those, Gunfire had his own series for a short while.

These notes were taken not too long after the series ended. As such, they’re far less thorough than more recent writeups.

Powers and Abilities

Gunfire can emit energy blast when he has an object to focus his energy through. The creation of his “energy bullets” caused the object to disintegrate into dust after repeated uses of his power.

Later in his brief career as a hero he was able to use his Energy Blast power without a focus. Rather, he would agitate the air molecules in front of him to create a blast.

History

Gunfire was unfortunately one of those New Blood characters introduced in the horrible Bloodline DC Annuals a few years back. He was actually an interesting character but unfortunately he didn’t survive in the competitive comic market of the 1990s.

He had some pretty cool villains (Ricochet, the Marauder, Purge, The Exomorphic Man). But unfortunately they all were usually killed in the issue in which they were introduced.

The series ended pretty stupidly though. Tying up loose plot threads. Ragnarok is apparently killed. VHI is pretty much destroyed. And Gunfire fades away into hero limbo.

Well that’s about it for Gunfire. Gimme a minute while I compose myself.
