Context

This is a specific version of DC Comics’ Hawkwoman. She appears in JLA: The Nail, a 1998 Elseworld  alternate universe.

The notes came shortly after the book, so they’re almost purely stats since it was assumed that people had read the book.

History

The Nail’s Hawkwoman appears to be essentially Earth-1 Hawkwoman. She came to Earth with Hawkman pursuing the criminal Byth.

Judging from events in JLA: the Nail, she remained on Earth out of a sense of loyalty to the memory of Hawkman. But her Thanagar is not the horror the post-Crisis Hawks fled. Thus, she was willing to return, when Earth turned against her.

Design Notes

The last published version of Hawkwoman I can find is in the 2nd edition Background and Roster Book. I started from there, and shuffled her powers and equipment around some. I left her some Sealed Systems, but moved most of it to her helmet. As I recall, the Hawks were able to survive in space without pressure suits, but did need an air supply (drawn from their uniforms).

I also radically lowered the STR of the wings from all published versions. It seems to me that the whole point of the anti-gravity belt is to render things light enough for the wings’ measly STR to lift.

Does anybody have an idea of how long it actually took them to fly to Thanagar and back ?
