Home-Wrecker (Hostess Comics)

Home Wrecker

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

During the 1970s, confectioner and cakes maker Hostess advertised in major comic books. The advertisements were full-page comics starring Marvel and DC Comics characters (and Hostess products).

These comics were nonsensical and a parody of the most absurd aspects of Silver Age  comics. They’re still fondly remembered for their goofiness.

Powers and Abilities

The Home Wrecker has no powers. He’s just a big, burly guy with an ordinary building wrecking vehicle.

History

He appeared in “Spider-Man Meets the Home Wrecker”, which was in Avengers #173, among other places.

Spidey is crawling along on the side of a building, when suddenly, a wrecking ball hits next to him. The web-head immediately recognizes the handiwork of… the Home Wrecker !

From his machine, the Home Wrecker delights in the opportunity to take out a building, and Spider-Man as a bonus. A second blow from the wrecking ball lands close. “Another jolt like that and this building and this little old wall-crawler will both be flatter than pancakes. I’ve got to get Home Wrecker’s hands off these controls !”, says Spidey.

Thinking quickly, Spider-Man lobs apple and cherry Hostess™ Fruit Pies at the villain, who of course, can’t resist. Letting go of the controls in favor of a two-fisted face-feed, Home Wrecker is in light, flaky, fruit-filled bliss.

Always a compassionate hero, Spidey wraps Home Wrecker up in steel cable, but leaves one hand free, so the baddy can continue to stuff his face with Hostess Fruit Pies. Mmmm.

The Wrecker returns

In 2009, the Home Wrecker was seen (sans vehicle) in the S-Wing of an unspecified New York prison. His name was given as Matthew Mitchell, and he now had white hair and wore glasses. He briefly participated in an accidental breakout, but everybody was brought down using sedation foam.

Description

Home Wrecker is a thick, muscle-bound fella, with hairy arms. He wears a tight orange T-shirt, army green overalls, and brown work gloves. His hardhat is red, and underneath it, he looks like he might be bald (yet another one !).

Personality

Home Wrecker loves “to see that big black ball take its toll of walls”. That pretty much sums up his whole personality.
