Impact of Cyberforce (Top Cow comics)

Impact

(Boomer O’Shea)

Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

Cyberforce was one of the earliest Image comics, by one of the founders – meaning it appeared in 1992. Back then these tales of cybernetically-enhanced mutants, cyberpunk  corporate malfeasance and bigs guns and pouches seemed like a workable role-playing campaign setting.

So we took notes. Cybernetically. Though of course those are now very, very old notes.

Powers and Abilities

Every super-team needs a brick, and Impact is Cyberforce’s brick. He’s strong, tough, and hits hard.

History

Unlike most Cyberforce members, Impact is not a mutant. Rather, he was one of the numerous victims of a titanic fight that took place between two unbelievably powerful bricks . This duel raged on successive planets as both fighters could leap from world to world.

At one point, one of the fighters managed to tackle his foe into a stargate. Both were reduced to energy and beamed away. One fighter’s energy form ended on Earth. The fighter sought to reincarnate himself, but no native lifeform was durable enough to survive the possession.

He chose to terrorize a Californian scientist in order to reincarnate himself. The scientist would work with the super-advanced knowledge provided to him by the energy extraterrestrial.

The “job” was to devise a drug that could enhance a human being to the point he could be possessed. Otherwise, the ET would attempt to possess the scientist and kill him in the process.

Hello, my name is BOOMER

Boomer O’shea was the scientist’s son. Yet he did not notice anything until the very last moment, as his father has always been the reclusive sort. His father was forced to inject him with the drug, and Boomer became an inhumanly powerful giant.

The subsequent possession failed and the lab exploded, leaving the much weakened Boomer near death. It was nearly impossible to save him through conventional means, especially given his size.

However, the evil corporation Cyberdata heard about him and offered him to save him in exchange for his services. Having no choice, Boomer agreed.

State of SHOC

Cyberdata rebuilt him using cybernetics. In particular, they grafted an high-tech metallic alloy all over him so that his durability would catch up with his strength. Cyberdata then made him part of their death-squads, the SHOCs (Special Hazardous Operations Cyborg).

Circa 1990, a Cyberdata researcher broke the cybernetic and mental conditioning of a small group of SHOC. He fled the evil corporation along with them.

These people, Impact among them, would become the super-hero group Cyberforce, fighting against Cyberdata in order to undo the terrible evil they had done while manipulated by the corp.

Description

Impact looks much like Colossus, but is much bigger and broader with grotesquely big shoulders and arms. He has long, metallic gray hair.

Personality

Impact used to be a young Californian surfer. But like all Cyberforce members lost much of his memories due to Cyberdata’s conditioning. He attempts to be again a laid-back and fun-loving West Coast dude, but he doesn’t seems to really believe in it.

He suffers a solid dose of angst due to his new, monstrous form, and while he’s definitely a good guy, he tries to avoid acting in public.

DC Universe History

Replace Cyberdata with Lexcorp, and here you go ! The SHOC become variations on the Team Luthor theme, and the Kraken (for those of you who read Cyberforce) would have been a master weapon intended against Superman.

The Cyberdata mess in the last few months of 1996 would be replaced by the seeming death of Luthor and the appearance of Luthor II, so you’ll have to position Cyberforce in the early 90s.
