Laura Dean
Context
Laura and her sister appeared in the 1987/1988 “Liveworld” story arc in Marvel Comics’ Alpha Flight. Then more stuff happened, but that’s when I took notes to have them pop up in a TSR Marvel Super-Heroes RPG game.
So yes, these notes are really, really old and out of date. Thirty years !

Powers and Abilities
Laura’s sole ability is that she can create dimensional gateways.
At first, she only could switch places between her and her sister, and between Earth and “Paradise”. She later learned to fully use her abilities, and both became able to coexist on the same dimension.
History
Laura and Goblyn are mutant twins. However, their father was a prominent member of a Canadian anti-mutant organisation. When the echograph revealed that one embryo had an inhuman form, Mr. Dean was devastated. He and his wife agreed to try an experimental protocol that would destroy the mutant embryo without affecting the normal-looking twin.
During the operation, Laura sensed what was going on and moved in the womb to protect her sister. The operation had to be stopped. Yet, when their mother gave birth, only one child emerged. The mutant one had somehow disappeared. Laura had used her own mutant power to evacuate Goblyn to another dimension while still in utero.
Laura was in a sort of autistic condition during much of her childhood. But she remained able to psychically sense and communicate to a degree with her sister.
At first, Laura and Goblyn could only switch places between the other dimension, which they called “Paradise” (which was later revealed to be the dimension of the Dreamqueen) and Earth, which they called “Hell”. Most observers assumed that Laura was actually a metamorph who transformed into the Goblyn form.
Scrambled
Laura first appeared in the New Life Clinic, the base of Lionel Jeffries (aka Scramble), where she apparently was a captive. She fled along with three fellow prisoners while Alpha Flight was engaging Jeffries. The four became the Derangers under the leadership of Bedlam, an insane creature with mental powers.
When Bedlam’s team was killed, Laura and Goblyn came in contact with Alpha Flight. They were more or less adopted by Purple Girl, a.k.a. Persuasion, and her mother. This allow Laura to overcome her pseudo-autistic symptoms. After a big fight with the Dreamqueen, both girls were induced in Beta Flight to learn how to control their powers.
Laura was code-named Pathway, but left along with her sister since what she wanted was a normal life. They would eventually come back to the Flight some years later, but this is not covered in this entry.
Description
Laura is an average Black Canadian eight-years old girl. She’s often wearing a red basketball T-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers.
Personality
Laura is just a little girl who wants to have a normal life. Yet she’s particularly mature for her age and completely devoted to her sister.
DC Universe History
As badly as Canada has fared in the Marvel Universe, it is done even worse in the DCU. Thus, adding the Flight to the DCU would represent few problems, especially if your DCU of the Flight is based on the paranoid, government conspiracy-driven Flight that was seen in the latest series.
One of the cute stunts would be to stunt that Shaman was actually in his youth the mystic called Flying Fox, a member of the Young All-Stars, and retired after the war.
