(Arisen Tyrk et al.)
This is Marvel’s first Lunatik. He appeared in 1975 in weird Man-Wolf (Jonah Jameson) adventures. But it is the 1977-1979 material in The Defenders (which could also get peculiar) that forms the bulk of his appearances.
He was very 1970s, I guess.
These are older, shorter notes.

Powers and Abilities
Tyrk was a self-proclaimed god of great physical and mystical power.
As Turk, he was a highly intelligent and eloquent man whose words had a subtle hypnotic power over his listeners.
As the Lunatiks, he displayed superhuman physical prowess, notably enhanced strength and agility.
Arisen Tyrk was the tyrannical mystic god-king of Other-Realm. But he was defeated and deposed by Stargod (John Jameson, the lycanthrope also known as Man-Wolf). Tyrk escaped to Earth, physically and mentally fragmenting in the process.
The most rational and socially adaptable of these fragments became Harrison Turk, an Empire State University drama prof. Meanwhile, three of his other fragments became the murderous, clown-faced vigilante Lunatik. The Lunatiks randomly brutalized anyone they deemed criminal, ranging from drug dealers to litterbugs.
This brought them into frequent conflict with the Defenders and their allies, notably ESU students Valkyrie (Brunnhilde) and Spider-Man (Peter Parker). The Defenders finally captured Lunatik and discovered to their shock that there were three of him. Turk then came forward to confess their joint origin, though he was careful to present his background in a flattering light.
He convinced the Defenders to accompany him in search of his three remaining personality fragments. These were terrorizing the otherdimensional Tunnelworld as “the Nilffim”.
Turns out the Nilffim, the Lunatiks and Turk were all thralls of an unspeakable interdimensional evil, the Unnameable. In their master’s service they turned on the Defenders. But the Defenders merged the baddies back into Arisen Tyrk.
From there Tyrk was defeated through the combined efforts of Clea, Doctor Strange and Xhoohx master mage of Tunnelworld after he dared challenge the Unnameable’s power.
The Lunatik fragments were zany madcap vigilantes. They constantly chattered in a mish-mash of media quotes.
The Nifflim were stoic warriors who spoke little.
Harrison Tyrk was a articulate, intelligent scholar. He was incredibly deceitful, manipulating people and the truth with equal ease.
As the God-King he was a typical megalomaniac, a tyrant of a ruler. He enjoyed torturing of his opponents.
“I’ve got rhythm ! I’ve got music ! I’ve got my staff – who could ask for anything more !”
“I used to be a god, y’know ! And – I’m cuckoo for Coco-Puffs !”
“Fast is Lunatik ! Mighty is Lunatik ! Lunatik is lord of the asphalt jungle ! With much more music !”
DC Universe History
The Otherworld was very reminiscent of Skartaris of the Warlord fame. One could almost seamlessly substitute worlds.
