Madame Jasmine of HYDRA DOA (Marvel Comics)

Madame Jasmine, Bronskon and Moorek

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

This gang of ne’er-do-wells are painfully obscure Nightstalkers baddies. They were seen but once in 1992.

I picked them as low-powered, supernaturally-themed “random encounter” fodder.

Powers and Abilities

Madame Jasmine

The raven-haired madame Jasmine wielded two crystal balls which. When touching, these would project a fierce bolt of mystical energy at her opponents.

Given the likely reaction of most RPG groups to somebody brandishing a pair of balls, I’d suggest making it a single crystal sphere.

When the Nightstalkers caught up with them, it seemed that she was trying to use a ouija board to do something. So she likely has 3 APs or so of Occultist (Rituals) and a few weak rituals .

Bronskon

Bronskon was a grifter and a thug, unafraid of killing if necessary. He had special shells provided by HYDRA for his trusty sawed-off shotgun. These fired a sort of hellfire.

Moorek

Nothing was actually displayed, so this is mostly guessing… Moorek has a serpent-like tongue. When he drooled saliva over a mystical pointed stick of his, it lit up with supernatural flame.

Our game stats assume that this saliva on his talisman was particularly harmful for vampires. Since his comment implied that he has been “made” to kill vampires. We also assumed that the light from the flame could pierce invisibility and other supernatural dissimulation.

History

Those three thugs had a “faux Romani” con. “Madame Jasmine”, patterning herself after American clichés about Romani traditions would promise “a last dance with the dead”. She said that she could contact dead people, usually relatives.

The band roamed New England. Bronskon tended to the light show simulating the supernatural effect of the seance. Moorek, in makeup, took the part of the dead relative.

They were contacted by the Division of Occult Armaments of HYDRA. For some reason, the DOA gave them some mystic trinkets – or, in the case of Moorek, genetic modifications. They likely used the trio to run various errands as expendable muscle.

Stalking the night fantastic

While running a seance for one Gregor Houghton in Boston , things went wrong. Houghton quickly saw that the “spirit” was not his death brother. In a fit of anger, he produced a switchblade and tried to slash Jasmine.

Bronskon killed him point-blank. The trio fled in Houghton’s expensive car, holding the cash he was carrying. But they soon found themselves hunted by the Nightstalkers. The supernatural vigilantes presumably had been tracking them down due to their D.O.A. ties.

The trio were swiftly defeated, and handed over to the Boston Police Department. Days later, they were freed by Lt. Belial, the head of the D.O.A. He took them to a Chinese restaurant. After Jasmine berated him for taking so long to get them out of jail, the restaurant emptied and closed.

Belial told the trio they they would tell him everything they had learned about the Nightstalkers, then eventually die at the hands of his main team of operatives.

Personality

Madame Jasmine

Madame Jasmine (probably not her real name, and she’s probably not Romani) is incredibly selfish and greedy. Her attempts at concealing it are poor, as per the quote below. She’s devoid of scruples.

When stressed, she’s savagely aggressive. She rushed Drake like a berserker to claw him with the jagged remains of her crystal balls (!).

Bronskon

Bronskon (who likely was about as Romani as Jasmine) was a hardened thug. He thought of himself as a fairly tough — but smart — guy.

Moorek

A stuttering, very nervous guy who finds comfort in knowing that he has been genetically enhanced by the D.O.A.

Quotes

Madame Jasmine
“They’re right behind us ! I —we — can’t let them get the cash — us !”

Bronskon
“Whatta you think ? I’m stupid enough to go up against you loaded with nothing more ’n buckshot ??? This baby fires souls of the damned !”

Moorek
(Panicking as the other two flee) “Jasmine ? Bronskon ? Where… we’re supposed to stay… together ?”
