Mano (rebooted version) in the darkness

Mano

(Post-Reboot version)

Context

The Legion of Super-Heroes, a youth club in the far future, has been a part of the DC Universe since 1958. There were various initiatives along the decades to revitalise this venerable institution. A big one was a complete continuity reboot  in 1994.

These notes are for one of the main characters in this rebooted reality. Like the rest of our reboot notes, they were taken when the reboot was still relatively recent.

Background

  • Real Name: Mano.
  • Marital Status: Unrevealed, presumed Single.

Powers and Abilities

Mano’s genetically enhanced DNA allows him to gather energy into his right hand and release to break molecular bonds.

He can also release the energy in a burst, which, with enough energy, can destroy a planet.

History

In the mid 30th century, the people of Angtu waged a terrible civil war. At the same time, paranoia about the interstellar monsters known as Sun-Eaters took Angtu by storm.

Perhaps in an effort to kill two birds with one stone, a program was initiated on Angtu and four other worlds. It was to genetically engineer champions to fight the Sun-Eater. The people of Angtu produced Mano.

During the Angtuan Wars Leland MacCauley sold chemical weapons to the Angtuans. These ultimately destroyed the atmosphere of the planet. All of Angtu died, with the exception of Mano. But while Mano survived, he was terribly disfigured. The energy that he manipulated now leaked through his face.

Mano’s physiology was altered as well, leaving him only able to breathe Angtu’s extinct atmosphere.

Revenge

Mano blamed MacCauley for destroying his world. He embarked on a mission to kill him and avenge his homeworld.

This vendetta brought him into conflict with the Legion of Super-Heroes during one of their earliest missions. Mano attacked MacCauley’s moon base on Luna, and the Legion was brought in to take him down. They managed to save MacCauley as well as the entire moon from Mano.

Mano was kept in a cell on the moon by MacCauley. He had bribed judges to allow him to keep Mano where he could keep an eye on him.

Sun-Eater

Mano was eventually freed by the Legion during the Sun-Eater scare. He joined the other four engineered warriors to take on a Sun-Eater. As it turned out, the Sun-Eater scare was a ruse by UP President Chu to manipulate the Legion. As a consequence, Mano joined with Tharok, the Empress, Validus and Persuader to form the Fatal Five.

The Five escaped from Legion. They then attempted to execute on Chu’s plans and start a new war between Titan and Braal. During the fight against the Legion, Mano helped stop the other Five members and turned himself in. He apparently did not want to harm any innocents.

Description

Mano’s costume is a brown spacesuit-type outfit with red gloves and boots. His head is sealed into a bubble-glass helmet to contain his breathable atmosphere.

Mano’s head is constantly enshrouded in dark purple energy, preventing any part of his face other than his completely white eyes to be seen.

Personality

Mano is a cold hearted killer, exacting out his vengeance to his enemies. However, Mano will only harm those who he feels are guilty. This does not, however, prevent him from killing to further his pursuit of “justice.”

New rules – Depleting (-2 FC)

A Power that is depleting burns itself out after each use. Every time the Power is used (whether that use is successful or not), the APs of power are reduced by the starting EV (before HPs are spent).

A Power reduced in this manner may not be recovered normally. The Power automatically recovers 1 AP for each round (0 APs) after it is used. Only Powers with an EV may take this limitation.

Example

Power Dude possesses Energy Blast 8 with the Depleting Limitation. He fires the blast (AV/EV 8) at Death Man. Regardless of whether the attack is successful or not, the Energy Blast is reduced by the EV of the attack (8), reducing it to 0.

The next round, Power Dude recovers 1 AP of Energy Blast. If he waits an additional 3 APs of time (30 seconds), the Energy Blast will be fully recovered.
