Powers and Abilities

Mechanus is an immortal servant of Destiny. In many senses he is the “most immortal” of beings. He will be immortal before the Big Bang and after the Big Crunch, according to the deal he made with Destiny.

His body, mind and soul are thus utterly indestructible. His mechanical body has slightly superhuman strength. His steel-forged mind is attuned to the space-time continuum so he always knows when and where he is.

Mechanus has a photographic memory, is a top class detective, a decent dabbler of the occult. Furthermore he is a learned mechanic, and is one of the all-time world authorities in forensics. On the other hand, his attempts at CGI paintings and his poetry are terrible.


History

The being currently called Mechanus was once a human alchemist of the XVIIIth century. He signed a deal with Destiny of the Endless.

Obsessed with immortality and predestination, Mechanus was granted his wish to become an immortal being. His life would go from before the beginning and until before the end of time. In exchange he would devote his life to be Destiny’s first (and to the moment, only) servant and never again return to Earth.

When the Tangent Justice League was almost erased from the Book of Destiny by the evil Dark One, Mechanus was appointed to guide them through Destiny’s Garden. This way they could get the first of the seven Endless items needed to reestablish themselves as real beings.

Description

When Mechanus abandoned his mortality he was turned into a mechanical humanoid. He is a metallic machine-man full of visible wheels, springs, steam powered pistons and even a mechanical heart.

He is undressed most of the time, although he wears a band with Destiny’s sigil on the rare occasions he is sent on a mission. Weirdly, he puts an apron for those times when he still engages in forensic work.

Mechanus sometimes walks with a faint noise of steam machinery doing his work, but he can completely silence this if he wishes. Likewise, he seems to remember things on his own, but sometimes he must press a button within his ribs so a stream of paper is produced where the information he searches is made clear to him.

He can stay motionless like a statue for hours, while he ponders some idea, but quickly jumps into action when need arises.


Personality

Mechanus is the only minion of the Endless who isn’t prone to getting involved into action. This ironic condition has made him slightly bitter and ironic, though absolutely committed to his cause. He’s glad to have a chance to interact with other living beings and is thrilled by the scarce visits his Master receives.

The other Endless pity him for his unused pawn role. They sometimes ask Destiny to use him in some of their tasks so he gets some chance to depart boredom. Eternity is so full of empty moments…
