Megaman
(Nathan Cooper)
Context
Megaman is a foe of Marvel Comics’ Nova, who principally appeared in 1977. The material was simple and deliberately retro. Yet he has something of an odd, minor mystique. Or at least he had one when we read the story 40+ years ago, heh.
He is known to still be around, but only one real story has been told about him.

Powers and Abilities
Apart from his heightened strength and durability, Megaman claims to have the ability to control his environment. The only powers he has evidenced so far are firing a sandblast while in a desert environment, calling up a flame, seemingly out of nothing, projecting beams of heat, and holding Nova in a beam of force, throwing him around.
History
When Nathan Cooper was out hiking with his young nephew, Roger, they came across a glowing black lake. Nathan stumbled into the lake, and Roger was unable to help him before he was completely submerged.
Nathan was transported a million years into the future. But the journey, and his new environment, had caused him extreme damage. He was rescued by an unusual entity which remade him. But not knowing how he had been before, she recreated him without facial features.
Cooper learned that the entity, the last of her kind, was lonely, and had fallen in love with him. His attempts to flee her failed, until he turned the powers she had given him against her, trapping her. He then dived back in to the black pool, managing to get back to his original time. The strains he had been under caused him to act psychotically, and he blamed his nephew for the accident at the lake.
Roger and me
He captured Roger, and chained him up in the drainage system, where he would soon drown. Nathan then regained sanity enough to rush back to free Roger, but arrived just in time to see Nova do so. When he tried to make peaceful contact with Roger, his nephew fled from him. And when he caught up to him, he again came into conflict with Nova. But Cooper managed to get away with Roger.

Apologising to Roger for his earlier actions, he asked him to act as a messenger to his wife, Clara. Nathan was afraid to confront her out of the blue.
But the mutated Cooper was again enraged when he discovered her with another man, whom she had been having an affair with before his supposed death. Nathan attacked the man. Nova arrived in time to prevent a murder.
Then the entity from the future soon caught up to him as well. She dragged him back to the future with her.
Glimpses without eyes
In 1990, Megaman was present as a captive on the Stranger’s world, during the battle between Quasar and the Overmind. It is unknown how he travelled back to this time period again, or what happened to him after being freed.
Personality
After his traumatic journey to the future, and the changes made to him, Megaman was extremely emotional, switching between an overwhelming rage at those he believed had wronged him, and periods of lucidity, in which he regretted the actions he had taken, and just wanted to get his life back.
In 2008, a person who almost certainly was Megaman was seen in a cell in Project 42, a super-prison established by the US government in the Negative Zone.
Quotes
“Now now, my dear Roger ‘Caps’ Cooper, calm down. It won’t do you any good to become too frightened. At least, not yet.”
“An accident ? Is this an accident, Roger ? Is my face beign wiped clean just an accident ?”
“You call turning me into this faceless freak caring ? Look at me ! Look at what you’ve done to me ! I would have preferred dying !”
“Fool ! Cretin ! You dare come between Megaman and his wife ?”
“Clara, listen to me ! I fought my way through one million years for you. I love you, Clara. Say you love me. She’ll go away, then. I’m sure of it. Please. For heaven’s sake, Clara ! Say you love me !”
