Powers and Abilities

Regal wears a suit that enhances his strength and agility, and allows him to make powerful jumps.

History

The son of a wealthy philanthropist, Tom Regal felt neglected by his father. He sought to gain his attention. Learning of an experimental exoskeleton at a local university research center, Regal stole it. He intended to wear the exo to destroy the new Washington Square Park Library, the construction of which his father had funded.

En route to the library, Regal offered a ride to three college students. These were secretly X-Men members. After reaching the park, two of the X-Men began a juggling act in the hope of earning enough donations to travel to Europe. While they performed, Regal attacked the library as Mekano, claiming the X-Men were his allies.

When the rest of the X-Men arrived, Regal fought them off for a time within the library. He then fled by leaping from a library window towards a nearby rooftop. However, his power-augmented grip crushed the ledge, and he fell. Saved by the telekinetic Marvel Girl, Regal surrendered just as his father arrived.

Feeling the situation was his fault, Regal’s penitent father declined to press charges against his remorseful son. He promised to pay more attention to Tom, and funded the X-Men’s trip to Europe.

Description

See illustrations.

Personality

Tom is a well-read fellow with good smarts. However, while he’s generally sociable and assertive, he’s obviously angry at the world, and his father in particular. The Mekano episode seemed to shock him back to his senses.

While he never reappeared, it is possible that he became even more bitter after his father died. He might have turned to Fascism in a way to insult the memory of his dad.

Quotes

“Listen, all of you… listen and heed the words of the magnificent Mekano ! You are privileged to be the first to see me in action… as I demolish the new memorial library which adjoins the park !”

““Shakespeare… Zola… Hemingway… all the overrated pencil-pushers of days past… down with all of them… and up with Mekano ! This is the time of the man of action… the will to power… not a time for useless words !”
