History

M’gann is the daughter of Protex and Primaid, the White Martian leaders of the Hyperclan. When they lead their invasion of Earth in 1997 and were defeated by the Justice League, Martian Manhunter used his Telepathic abilities to cause all of the members of the Hyperclan to believe they were human. They were placed in jobs that put them in close proximity to fire on a regular basis.

However M’gann, although affected, was not found at this time. It wasn’t until J’onn started investigating their ship a few days later that he found a, seemingly human, girl of about 10 years onboard the ship. A quick mental scan confirmed that she was a White Martian but also that she was a child and innocent of any part in the invasion.

J’onn being a firm believer in justice he could not punish the child for simply being a White Martian so he brought her back to Denver and “asked” his “friend” John Jones to take her in (he had Matrix play Jones for a few hours).

A few months later he adopted her legally (as Jones) and by the time her mental conditioning started to fade and she began rediscovering her powers (in late 2000) she had grown to genuinely love her “dad” and sided with him against her parents when they regained their memories and powers.

Over the next few years she began publicly acting as “Miss Martian” and learning what it means to be Martian from J’onn. When Superboy began putting together a new Teen Titans team she was asked to join. Since then she has proven to be a valuable member and a true friend.

Description

Miss Martian is a green humanoid with red hair. She wears a blue skirt, blue boots, and a white top with red stripes that criss-cross her chest and merge into her belt, which has a circular design on the buckle. A short blue cape with a collar hangs from her shoulders.

As Megan Jones or any other identity she assumes, she can look like any human you have or haven’t seen before. Megan Jones in particular is about the same build as Miss Martian, with brown hair, and brown eyes.

Personality

M’gann has completely adapted to life on Earth and has put her White Martian roots behind her. She is fun loving, flirtatious, and has an upbeat outlook on life. She thinks of herself as both a citizen of Earth and a Green Martian.

In fact this belief is so strong that anything that would force her to reassume her natural shape will “reveal” a Green Martian.

Quotes

“Don’t even think about trying to give me Oreos ! Those things are like caffeine to Martians.”

“By the sands of Mars !”

Miss Martian: “You alright Josh ?”
Icarus: “I don’t know Megan, I mean, we aren’t even in our own galaxy anymore.”

Bonuses and Limitations:

  • Dispersal allows partial dispersal and is not impeded by force fields.
  • Invisibility requires incredible concentration to use, so she cannot use any dice actions while invisible without first making an Int/Will vs AV/EV of the action she wants to attempt. This counts as an automatic action, not a dice action, for the phase. If she fails the check she becomes visible instantly.
  • Self Manipulation allows her to shape her body in a free form manner, controlling each molecule mentally. She however cannot gain physical abilities she does not already have that aren’t suggested solely by the form itself, such as Extra limbs and so on.
  • Density Increase and Growth can only be used when on a planet (-1). Unless that planet is Mars, all of MM’s Powers acquire a Serious Burnout until she ejects the alien mass or replaces it with Martian dirt (-2).
  • Powers that burn out can either cease to function or function unpredictably (-1).
  • Omni-Power does not cost HPs to use, however she must devote all of her improvement HPs to buying that power before any other character advancement. She may not mimic the same power with Omni-Power again. She may not use Omni-Power again until she has purchased the last power mimicked.
  • Mental Illusion can only be used once, ever. It grants the heart’s desire of whatever being it is used upon.

Design Notes

I use the optional powers listed in the WORG w/u for Martian Manhunter (written by Byron Molix) as standard powers for Martians. Mind Shield is included in powers since I feel that all telepaths should have it. Though the character is a minor (under 18) she does not have the Age drawback due to her shape shifting powers (can look old enough to legally do whatever she is doing).

Further notes

M’gann’s Dispersal applies its APs normally to her defenses against physical and energy attacks but she ignores force fields entirely.

M’gann has been taught by J’onn to use her Self Manipulation in many of the same ways as he does, such as extending her limbs to long lengths (by giving herself Stretching), and she can also become a living sculpture unique to Martian culture if she desires to.

She also can gain abilities that are physically a part of the body she is mimicking, such as gills, wings, claws etc, but abilities created by a metagene or magic she cannot produce.
