Muse (Hostess Comics)

Muse

(Hostess Cakes advert)

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

During the 1970s, confectioner and cakes maker Hostess advertised in major comic books. The advertisements were full-page comics starring Marvel and DC Comics characters (and Hostess products).

These comics were nonsensical and a parody of the most absurd aspects of Silver Age  comics. They’re still fondly remembered for their goofiness.

Powers and Abilities

His synthesizer transforms people into musical notes. To get the best music, he requires the best musicians. It then appears that he himself has the skill.

History

He appeared in “The Muse,” which appeared in Isis #2.

Batman and Robin were investigating the mysterious disappearance of such legendary musicians as Rich Jaggard, Jim Colorado, and Elfish Hipsley (groan).

The Dynamic Duo attend a concert featuring The Three Bottles, with the Muse playing backup on synthesizer. The Muse begins to use his synthesizer on one of the three singers, so Batman and Robin spring into action. Batman rescues all the stored musicians in the synthesizer, while Robin distracts the Muse with Hostess™ cupcakes.

Description

He has brown hair with a thin moustache and beard. He wears a white shirt with blue stripes on the cuffs, a red vest with two vertical blue stripes, and red pants with a blue stripe down each side. His shoes are brown, and his socks are white.

Personality

He wants to be believed to be a great musician, so he steals other musicians by using his synthesizer.
