Powers and Abilities
Captain Amazing is in many ways a classic 1950s two-fisted comic hero. He bulldozes his way through situations by dint of fact that he is slightly more skilled and very slightly more intelligent than most of his foes.
His armored costume has built-in rocket vents allowing him to fly.
History
Lance Hunt was an ambitious young man from a prominent family. He worked his way through law school and became the Attorney General of Champion City. He had hopes of making his way into politics, but craved more immediate attention than such political maneuverings allowed. Thus, he took on the superhero identity of Captain Amazing.
Captain Amazing not simply provided Lance with the adulation he enjoyed. It also became quite lucrative, raking in the dollars on various brand-name endorsements that he literally applied to his costume.

It also boosted his legal career because Captain Amazing could step in where Lance Hunt could not. The “friendship” between his two identities also elevated Lance in the public’s eye.
But Captain Amazing and Attorney General Lance Hunt’s stars were both rising…and then they began to burn out. Captain Amazing was too successful.
An excess of success
In short order, all of the super villains in Champion City had been brought to heel: Death Man and Baron von Chaos were killed, Armagezzmo fled the country, Father Doom and Apocalypta were serving long prison sentences, and Casanova Frankenstein was institutionalized. Without any splashy fights to make the headlines, interest in Captain Amazing began to fade.
Desperate to maintain his popularity and endorsement contracts, Captain Amazing arranged in both of his identities to plead for the release of his greatest foe, Casanova Frankenstein. Casanova was paroled and up to his old tricks in short order.
Captain Amazing flew in to arrest him, only to find out the hard way the Casanova was a step ahead of him. The madman drugged and captured Captain Amazing and secured him to the Psychofrakulator, a device Casanova planned to use to destroy Champion City.
The ad hoc second-stringers known as the Mystery Men broke into Casanova Frankenstein’s mansion to rescue Captain Amazing. The fumbled attempt, combined with Captain Amazing’s impatience with the team’s efforts, ended with the inadvertent activation of the Psychofrakulator. This killed Captain Amazing.
Description
Lance Hunt is a stereotypical Golden Age blond-haired blue-eyed White Hero. In his civilian identity he wears dark conservative suits that fit his image as a dogged defender of law and order. He also has stylish eyeglasses that give him the proper intellectual look while disguising his identity.
As Captain Amazing, he wears a sculpted uniform made of black space-age plastics with chrome accessories. The most prominent of these is the CA emblems on his chest and belt buckle. The Captain’s head is completely uncovered, so that his fans can appreciate his tousled hair and the charming twinkle in his eye.
He is also festooned with advertiser logos all over his upper body. This makes his costume look like the unholy lovechild of a NASCAR body stocking and a Fremen stillsuit.
Personality
To the public, Lance Hunt and Captain Amazing are both determined boy scouts just doing their best to make the world a better place. In private, though, Hunt’s main concern is how to move up on the socioeconomic ladder.
He only assumed the mantle of Captain Amazing to get more of the attention and money that he craves. He even created a friendship between Captain Amazing and his civilian persona to give himself extra gravitas. He would probably declare his secret identity to the world if the conflicts of interest in his activities between his alter egos would not scuttle his legal career.
Like most of the spoiled rich, Lance Hunt cannot believe anything bad can really happen to him. This makes him prone to overconfidence. Even up to the end, while he was a captive of Casanova Frankenstein, he had no idea that he could possibly be in any real danger.
Quotes
“I’m positioned. Do you know what that means on a very personal level, here (pointing to his heart), to know that the companies that make these fine products want me to be their spokesperson — their voice ?”
“Amazing triumphs in a nursing home ! Oh yeah, that makes great press.”
“Tooth decay and gingivitus can be a crime. That’s why I use Mighty Whitey toothpaste, because I want my teeth to look… Amazing.”
Upon realizing that his arch-enemy has drugged him: “Aw, dang !” *Thud.*
DC Universe History
Generally speaking, Captain Amazing could be following in Booster Gold’s footsteps, picking up on the idea of superhero-as-marketing-icon. Depending on the power level of the campaign, he could be either a role model to the PCs (who would not be aware of his true intentions) or he could be a glory seeker getting underfoot whenever the news cameras are nearby.
He might also be looking for ways to improve his costume’s abilities. He might show up in Metropolis looking to incorporate B13 technology into his garb, for example.
