Powers & Abilities
Outlaw :
- Is an experienced mercenary and hitwoman.
- Is an expert markswoman with revolvers and hunting rifles.
- Has low superhuman strength (“Class 2”).
Her durability is also slightly superhuman. For instance 9mm rounds cannot really penetrate her skin, though multiple impacts can stun her for a bit.
Crossfire’s powerful handgun could make her bleed and left her doubled over for a minute or two from the pain and lack of breath.

Ordnance
She operates a matched pair of magnum revolvers. In most appearances they’re presumably Colt Anacondas with a 4” barrel, but on one occasion they were drawn as Old West replicas. In those cases I would assume something like a Ruger Vaquero in .357 magnum or a Super Blackhawk.
She also often packs a precision rifle (presumably a Remington M700) and/or a robust lasso and/or a knife (presumably a Bowie-style blade) in a lower leg sheath.
Her Old West-style belts sometimes have extra magnum rounds in individual hoops.
Other skills
Outlaw :
- Is a solid hand-to-hand fighter.
- Has a respectable network of street and underworld contacts.
- Has some emergency medical skills.
- Is an Old West-style fast-draw expert.
One strongly suspects that she’s a good equestrienne. Some of her remarks imply that she’s worked cattle and/or performed at rodeos.
History
Outlaw is a descendent of one of the masked heroes of the West, the Outlaw Kid. Apparently, she was always determined to honour his legacy by being a modern day Wild West-style adventurer.
She grew up in the Rio Grande Valley. Her tendency to get into brawls because she was insulted earned her the nickname “Crazy Inez” – which she reviles.
As it happens, Temple turned out to be a mutant with minor super-human strength. She leveraged this into becoming a sort-of-costumed criminal mercenary.
As such she’s a regular on the main superhuman mercenary scene in the US, in New York City, socialising with mercs such as Deadpool while looking for jobs.
Raising Hell and sticking a chunk under it
When Deadpool’s former secretary Sandy Brandenberg set up her own mercenary agency, she hired Outlaw. The job was to train her newest agent, “Alex Hayden” (aka Agent X), in advanced firearms operation.
Agent X and Outlaw later teamed on a job when collectors hired them to steal the Punisher (Frank Castle)’s guns. The job failed, but the two mercs somehow convinced the Punisher to let them leave and go after their employers instead.
Outlaw became Agent X’s lover. She then agreed to help him and Taskmaster against the Four Winds Yakuza clan. During the battle she ran into Crossfire (William Cross), who challenged her to an old-school fast-draw duel.
They simultaneously shot each other, but Outlaw was more resilient and recovered first. Temple narrowly survived the rest of the battle, and “Hayden” negotiated an end to the feud with the Four Winds.
However, Inez then had to return home to take care of her ailing father. Several months later, Mr. Temple passed away. Outlaw returned to New York, where she discovered that Agent X had slept with Brandenberg.
She tracked them down and intervened into an ongoing fight. Her arrival gave Agent X, Taskmaster and Deadpool some time to regroup against the Black Swan. Outlaw soon reconciled with Brandenberg, who thought that her fling with Agent X had been a mistake and put an end to it.
So low that she couldn’t jump off a dime
In 2006, Temple was unaffected by the Scarlet Witch’s suppression of mutants – but the general backlash against mutants threatened even her. She made her way to the X-Mansion to lay low for a while, finishing her travels with fellow mutant Peepers (Peter Quinn).
She stayed for a few weeks at the refugees camp with the so-called “198” — mutants who hadn’t been depowered by the Witch’s spell — and roomed with Skids and Magma.
Uncomfortable with government supervision, Outlaw was among the mutants who left with Mr. M (Absolom Mercator), but were forced back when Mr. M was slain. She then joined a breakout organised by Domino and Shatterstar. She and dozens of other escapees only narrowly escaped death when their desert hideout turned out to be an unstable weapons storage facility.
A few months later, Temple left the camp and visited her friend Sandy at Agency X, but they were ambushed by T-Ray. Deadpool rescued them, but was sucked into a time-travel case which ended with the intervention of the Fantastic Four.
Once everybody returned to the present, the Thing offered Temple and Brandenberg to stay with the FF for a time, and they took the offer.
Like a duck on a june bug
In 2009, Outlaw hid Deadpool, who had been framed for mass murder and was hounded by the Punisher. This resulted in her apartment being wrecked, but Deadpool promised that he’d replace everything.
The merc with a mouth proved true to his word. He gave Temple a brand-new, fully-furnished apartment to apologise for the damage and thank her for sticking by him. Moved by this display of friendship, Outlaw acted upon her long standing physical attraction toward Deadpool.
In 2010, Outlaw was apparently visiting the mutant community Utopia, off the San Francisco coast – perhaps to see Magma (Aquilla Amara), with whom she seemed to be on good terms back during the 198 days.
The island came under massive attack from Sentinel mechas from the future attempting to kill Hope Summers. Outlaw joined the desperate battle to hold the unending invasion at bay, while a special mutant team was sent in the future to cut off the assault at its source.
Though there were significant casualties, Outlaw apparently made it in one piece. She attended Deadpool’s marriage in 2014.
Description
Outlaw goes for a full-bore Texas girl look, to the point of wearing a long blonde wig (her actual hair is a bit darker and much shorter), having had sizeable breast implants done and occasionally wearing blue cosmetic contact lenses.
She also has a Texas accent and diction, but not in an exaggerated manner, and one presumes that her hat is the most authentic Texas cowgirl hat ever.
Personality
Outlaw is a smooth pro, fighting smart and knowing her capabilities. She’s observant and experienced – not amazingly so, but she’s clearly no cannon fodder.
Her Texas thing isn’t a schtick. She loves her state and genuinely misses it, but has to operate in NYC for business reasons. She tends to frequent Texas-themed bars for relaxation, though of course those in the Big Apple ain’t the real thing.
Inez maintains her street cred and follows a sort of cowgirl code of honour. Her hobbies include listenin’ to authentic country music, fixin’ authentic Texas cooking and havin’ lots of casual sex, which I guess is authentic too.
When it comes to the latter Temple isn’t after conventional standards and beauty, preferring rugged and powerful men to a pretty face. Both Deadpool and Agent X caught her attention.
Quotes
“One thing you’d best learn, pronto… don’t never touch a Texas girl’s gun.”
“Bury me with my spurs on, s’all I ask.”
“Giddy up.”
“Hmmm. I always dreamed I’d meet a guy who can’t talk and don’t need Bactine.”
“I useda bust broncs, you know.”
