Powers and Abilities

Owen was, at his peak, at least as skilled a hand-to-hand combatant as his brother Bret.

In addition, he possessed the mutant power of flight. He often used his power of flight to make charging and kicking attacks at his opponents.

History

Owen Hart was the youngest son of 1940s Canadian Olympic wrestler Stu Hart. A skilled fighter in a wide range of styles (and weapons), Stu opened an underground training facility in the 1970s. He intended to pass his skills on to the cream of the crop of international fighters and mercenaries.

Despite his lack of metahuman abilities, Hart specialized in training those students who did possess paranormal abilities in the efficient use of those gifts. He ran the facility, nicknamed “The Dungeon” under the cover of a professional wrestling promotion. He called it “Calgary Stampede Wrestling.”

It explained the equipment and people entering and leaving the facility. And the explosions could be explained away to the neighbors as “pyrotechnics” and “the PA system.”

Owen trained as part of what was considered the last great graduating class of the Dungeon. While others would follow, the peak years of the Dungeon training the premiere metahuman mercenaries in the world were over.

Have fists, will travel

Owen completed his training, but rather than teach at the Dungeon or go into mercenary work as was expected, Owen immediately began traveling the world. This was inspired by costumed vigilantes in the U.S., Japan, and Europe.

He worked under the masked identity of “The Blue Blazer” for several years. Then he unmasked and called himself “The Rocket”, based on his power of flight. However, years of rough landings took their toll on his knees. Thus, before he was 30, Owen was relying more on his training than on his flight.

Owen enthusiastically joined his brother Bret in forming a new “Hart Foundation”. They worked for heroic causes rather than mercenary goals. They fought with Shawn Michaels and his “Degeneration X” gang, leading to Triple H calling Bret “a piece of sh!t” and Owen “a nugget of sh!t that just won’t flush.”

The Hart’s received help from Bret’s old partner, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. They captured most of the Degeneration X flunkies, but the core members escaped.

Last contract

A New York businessman asked the Harts to protect him from a local protection racket. Neither Owen nor Bret knew that the businessman was tied to local organized crime and that the whole thing was a setup.

Owen was ambushed and killed. Bret suffered a debilitating concussion due to the ineptitude of a younger hero and was forced to retire before he was able to avenge his brother’s murder.

Personality

Owen was a practical joker. His pranks were often extreme, but always harmless in the end. The only thing that gave Owen more joy than his joking was his family.
