This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.

Powers and Abilities

All of Tommy’s abilities stem from a forcefield that constantly envelopes and protects him. When he is at rest, the field is almost undetectable. As he started to run, the field increases in strength until hitting 3 APs of movement. It then lifts him slightly off the ground. At max, he lifts maybe an inch off the ground.

This field has a number of effects, laid out below.

Friction

The field lets him control friction. This is how he controls his skating, with his hairpin turns, banking off buildings, etc. At this point, his ability to control the friction of other objects is very, very crude. Add +2cs to OV/RV for effecting other objects when he is skating, +4cs when he is at rest (moving at speeds of 2 or below).

The speed requirement on his friction control also changes how the power acts for climbing – he can only subtract half his AP ranking from the OV for climb attempts.

One odd effect of his field operates regardless of speed. Tommy is extremely difficult to move from his chosen course. Whether he is standing still or skating at speed, anyone who attempts to separate him from the surface he is skating (Standing) on (even water) must roll againdt OV/RV of 12/12. His APs of joined also sub for DEX to resist the effects of oil or other skid out materials.

When the field fully activates it provides him with considerable protection from physical attacks, and provides even better protection from energy based attacks.

Also, it will extend itself over the area of roughly one human, providing that Tommy is touching the object or person. This object is granted the full defensive bonuses of the field – but since it doesn’t activate until he is running, the person or item must (in effect at least) be carried by Tommy.

Other assets

Despite his young age and frame, Tommy is slightly stronger than most adults. His leg muscles are extremely strong and he can jump superhuman distances, even when still.

While Tommy has yet to fight a supervillain, he does have a tactic he is itching to try. He is just waiting for a flyer to swoop down and attempt to yank him off the ground (which would have the effect of neutralizing a large amount of his power, since he would no longer be moving under his own power).

When they make the attempt, and hopefully fail, he will instantly veer into the nearest wall, with them in between him and the target.

History

Tommy is new to the superhero business, and has yet to fight his first supervillain. He has foiled several muggings and a carjacking however. He also helped to clear a burning high rise – skating up and down the stairs even after they caught fire, carrying people to safety through the flames. He just recently moved to the Atlanta area from San Francisco.

Note that he is a talented photographer and writer. While only beginning, he has sold a small number of articles.

Personality

Hyperactive. He does not, however, have a short attention span. He can be remarkably patient if it is required. He is very tenacious, and does not give up easily. If he wants something, then he will work hard to get it – and he wants very much to be a superhero.

At the same time, he knows that as heroes go, that his powers are not much. This, combined with the fact that at 13 he knows very little about the world at large, has combined to make him quite uncertain about his ability to be a hero.

He is a huge fan of Young Justice, and will go to considerable lengths in attempts to gain their autographs, and to meet them. He is particularly interested in Impulse, and is a high ranking member of the (small) Impulse fan club.
