Pretty Persuasions from Psionex (Marvel Comics)

Pretty Persuasions

Pretty Persuasions is from Psionex, a dysfunctional group of young superhumans who clashed with the New Warriors during the early 1990s.

They didn’t get a lot of screen time, but they seemed to have potential.

Powers and Abilities

Pretty Persuasions can psionically manifest weaponry in her hands. These are her own erotic impulses given a psionic form. Her usual weapon is a whip, but stuff like baseball bats, claws, etc. are a possibility. The whip has displayed great strength – it acted more like a tentacle than a whip.

She can also psionically overload the pleasure centres of her opponents. She particularly appreciated it when Marvel Boy turned back that power on her.

Pretty Persuasions was part of an experiment by the genetics research firm GeneTech to create artificial powers in selected test subjects, dubbed Psionex. Pretty Persuasions was introduced as an “exotic dancer” by a very embarrassed GeneTech executive, which presumably means she was a stripper.

The fledgling hero group the New Warriors were investigating GeneTech, and came into conflict with Psionex. After some initial difficulties, including getting captured, the Warriors cleaned up on Psionex handily.

Breaking free

The second time they clashed, it was because Psionex had decided to terminate their association with GeneTech, and had commandeered the facility. The New Warriors took on the improved and up-powered Psionex, and fought them to a standstill.

The fight was only interrupted because GeneTech’s founder, Harmon Furmintz, released the irradiated remains of Terrax, former herald of Galactus, from their storage containers. He hoped to gain Terrax’s powers and stop the fight. Terrax took over Furmintz’s body, destroyed GeneTech, and left to seek out the Fantastic Four.

The New Warriors Nova and Marvel Boy (aka Justice) were later shown checking up on Pretty Persuasions to make sure she was behaving herself… At which time she was back to exotic dancing, and had apparently given up on any meaningful superhuman career.

In 2005, she was glimpsed performing in a Brooklyn strip club.

See illustration.

Violent and semi-sociopathic. She curses a lot and uses street language. She seems somewhat sordid and possesses a nasty temper.

Asylum can only give you a taste, boys… I can give you a fucking full-course meal. Pleasure can be pain. Yeah. it can. Shit – yeah ! And you two guys look like you c‘n handle it. But can you handle me ?”

DC Universe History

She’d fit well in the Blüdhaven squalor, and could be an occasional agent for Blockbuster II.

Or you could attempt a less stick-up-the-nethers-tastic portrayal of a stripper, but that’s just crazy talk.
