Psyche

(Lisa Lemarque)

Power Level:
Game system: DC Heroes Role-Playing Game

Context

This character is an original creation. We often call these “homemades” or “homebrewed” – think home cooking or craft beer.

Many of these characters were created to take part in tabletop role-playing game sessions. Others were invented as a creative writing exercise, often as part of a community event.

This specific character was part of a RPG campaign run by writeups.org contributor Bil.

Powers and Abilities

Psyche is a powerful telepath and telekinetic, and has a host of powers and abilities derived from this. In addition to simple mental contact, she can:

  • Determine a person’s emotional state.
  • Attack a target’s mind.
  • Take control of a target (something she doesn’t like doing).
  • Detect the presence of individuals.
  • Probe the thoughts of a target (something else she tends not to do unless needed).

Also, she can generate telekinetic force fields, in addition to sheer telekinetic strength.

She also is highly educated. With a Phd in criminology, her forensics skills are a valuable asset to Power Core.

History

Psyche has always had her psionic  abilities, or so she says. She developed powerful mental blocks early on to prevent herself from accessing her powers until she was ready.

She first appeared as an adventurer shortly after Power Core was founded in NYC. She aided them on several adventures as an independent. She fell in love with Black Lion, and joined the group.

Recently, she and Black Lion have become engaged, and have set a date. However, due to the extreme popularity of the two, that date is a more closely guarded secret than most governments’ military data.

Description

A very beautiful woman, with long dark hair, and soft brown eyes. Her heroic garb consists of blue tights, and a black blouse with baggy sleeves. She does not wear a mask.

Personality

Psyche is exceptionally intelligent, and thinks through almost everything she does. She is rarely impulsive, and will occasionally get exasperated at Black Lion when he does something rash. One of the most level-headed of Power Core, she is usually the voice of reason.

She doesn’t change much in battle, and will attempt to figure out what an opponent will do without using her telepathy, and react accordingly. More often than not, she is right.

DC Universe History

Psyche could either be a genetic mutant, as she is here, or a member of an offshoot of Homo Magius, known in one campaign of ours as Homo Psychus. Either way, she works well whenever you need a generic telepath/telekinetic.

No, she is not a Jean Grey clone, she is far more analytical and less emotional. Not that she’s a cold fish, mind you, but those mental screens she’s got are psychological in nature, too.
