The Rainbow archer appears in sourcebooks for several editions of the Champions RPG.

Champions is one of the big, classic super-hero tabletop role-playing games. Its first edition was published in 1981.

Apart from Mongoose (who has a 33), she has, IIRC, the highest DEX (35) of any published Champions character. The 4th ed. version of her actually /depowered/ her abilities somewhat from her initial appearance.

Overkill aside, she’s a favorite of mine :). And yes, her name is a Robin Hood joke.

Powers and Abilities

Rainbow Archer is superhumanly swift and agile. Her outstanding agility allows her to often come into the open and fight, rather than hiding behind cover, which befits her flamboyant nature.

She is not accustomed to ever being hit. Should a blow manage to land, it will come as a shock to her and cause extra damage.

On top of that, she carries a custom-made bow and quiver full of specialized arrows (included her dreaded invisible arrows ;)). Her bow is actually made of stern enough material that she can use it to deflect incoming ranged attacks. However she dislikes doing so, unless necessary.

The choice of arrows is, of course, often appropriate to the specific circumstance (omni-gadget).



Marion Locksley came to the United States from England at the age of 17. She was already a world-class archer. A mix-up with her visa caused her to miss her dream of competing in the Olympic games. Her hopes were crushed, but she waited, continuing to practice and compete.

She completed a degree in mechanical engineering and learned to make better and better equipment for competition. Her designs even won her a lucrative contract from a sporting goods manufacturer.

Then came disaster. A jealous rival accused her of cheating, using an illegally stabilized bow in normal competition. She was also accused of being a professional, since her living came from designing archery equipment. The charges forced her to miss the world championships, and embittered her. Once again her quest to be proven best in the world had failed.

Since her lucrative sporting contract is what kept her from being the World CHAMPION archer, she decided she would continue on the path of being the world’s RICHEST archer. She now steals various unusual things (like priceless tapestries, or another character’s gadgets, etc.), for fun and profit. She also works as a bow for hire.


Marion has bright red hair and green eyes which are covered by her goggles & mask when in costume.

The Rainbow Archer costume has no definite color. Rather, the material diffracts light into a rainbow of hues. Her gloves, hood, and boots are lincoln green.

She stresses her English accent in her Rainbow Archer persona, whereas in her secret ID it’s barely noticeable.


Marion is haughty and proud. Inside, she’s insecure because of bad breaks she’s had. But she will never allow that side of her personality to be revealed.

Instead, she overcompensates by acting arrogant. She is extremely flamboyant, and likes to make spectacular entrances. Marion will rob from the rich to give to the poor, but mostly robs just for herself.

She is a team player, and doesn’t mind allowing her choice of arrows to be dictated by a team leader. However she isn’t a killer, and won’t get along with any individual or organization that sheds a lot of blood.

Marion doesn’t like heroes who enjoy hurting their opponents and has been known to tell them off in her English accent.

Marion would have competed in the same archery tournament with Connor Hawke, and been hit upon by Eddie Fyers. With her abilities, but dislike of bloodthirstiness, she would likely have run afoul of Merlyn as well.

  • Add to advantages- Schtick: Lightning Release, Schtick – Miracle Shot.
